Voting starts in Iowa tomorrow, Monday, October 5.

I hope you can get ready and vote as soon as you are ready, hopefully this week.

Let's get it started!

You can vote in person at your county auditor's office starting Monday, October 5. Please note there are contested races for President, US Senate, and US House on the ballot as well as . . .
potentially contested races for Iowa Senate (in half the state), Iowa House, county offices, agricultural extension, and soil and water conservation district commissioner, and . . .
judicial retention elections for 4 Iowa Supreme Court Justices, for 4 Iowa Court of Appeals judges, and for some district court judges, as well as a required question on a Constitutional convention (I plan to vote no on that).

Just heard advertisement by Ashley Hinson that brags about her efforts to help people with the coronavirus epidemic and the derecho.

Huh? Not as an Iowa state representative. She hasn't voted for anything to help people suffering from coronavirus or the derecho.

(1/4)
On the derecho, the Iowa Legislature hasn't been in session, and Gov. Reynolds hasn't called a special session.

On the coronavirus, the Republican majority did not pass a single bill to slow down or stop the spread, or help people who were suffering its consequences.

(2/4)
In fact, since the Republicans adjourned the legislative session on June 14, there have been over 68,000 new cases of coronavirus and 730 Iowans have died from it.

That's nothing to brag about.

Four more Iowans have died from COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 1,381 since first death on March 24.

Deaths were reported in Black Hawk, Crawford, Henry, and Linn Counties.

Please mourn the dead, support loved ones and caregivers, and help stop the spread!
In addition to the four deaths, Iowa reports that hospitalizations dropped to 392 - good - but patients in intensive care were up to 104 and patients on ventilators were up to 39.

There were 58 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in the last 24-hour reporting period.
Iowa reported 684 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing Iowa's total to 92,545.

Subtracting deaths (1,381) and "recoveries" (71,580), there are 19,584 active cases - or 1 out of every 162 people!

Earlier today, I shared the statewide numbers for coronavirus in Iowa: 10 more deaths, hospitalizations up to 402, and 1,107 new confirmed cases.

We now know the new cases included 108 more kids under age 18, up to 7,762.

Now for the county-by-county data:
The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 539 new cases for total of 36,189 cases.

They had 4 deaths reported, for a total of 470.

On April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.
Sioux County (pop. 35,000) had the most new cases in the 77 counties.

For 17 of the last 18 days, it has had more new cases than Story (pop. 97,000) and Johnson (pop. 147,000).

Sioux: 51
Story: 16
Johnson: 21

Gov. Reynolds, doing anything to stop the spread in Sioux?
