Hours before the original registration deadline, Florida's online voter registration system crashed.
Documents we obtained show significant issues with Florida’s OVR system in 2018. Why weren’t these issues fixed in the past two years? americanoversight.org/new-documents-…
The 2018 documents show pages upon pages of prospective-voter complaints about apparent technology and user interface errors with Florida’s OVR system, as well as concerns from local county election supervisors about the tool.
“PLEASE FIX THIS,” one Floridian implored on July 24, 2018. “THIS IS RIDICULOUS.” Yet, the system encountered the same sort of chaos yesterday, on the registration deadline.
Recent tech issues within the Florida government, including the failure of its unemployment system to handle the crush of pandemic claims and even hiccups with OVR earlier this year, have made watchdogs rightfully wary.

Over six months into the pandemic, shortages of PPE remain.
New documents we obtained show Jared Kushner—the president’s son-in-law who was tasked with managing the supply chain of PPE—forwarded information about the importance of masks to combatting Covid-19.
On May 15, Kushner forwarded the—in his words—“interesting intel” that “masks really work” and are the “silver bullet in Asia.” The forwarded email info specified the benefits of surgical and N95 masks over homemade masks.
In the forwarded email, Kushner’s “good source” expressed “dismay” that DuPont, the American chemical company, no longer makes the effective melt-blown nonwoven fabric and that the country is “heavily dependent on Sinopec,” a Chinese company.
New: Yesterday, after weeks of delay, the FDA released its Emergency Use Authorization standards for prospective coronavirus vaccines. We had previously filed a FOIA request for the guidelines. americanoversight.org/fda-releases-c…
We sent the FDA, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Office of Management and Budget requests seeking the guidelines on Sept. 30. This week, the FDA emailed us, “In response to your FOIA request, the EUA guidance is posted.”
The guidelines set in place new requirements that make it unlikely that a vaccine will receive authorization in the next month. The FDA is now advising vaccine developers to monitor trial participants for at least two months following their final dose of a vaccine or placebo.
New: We launched an investigation into the outbreak of Covid-19 at the White House, beginning with #FOIA requests to DOJ for guidance and communications regarding the presidential line of succession. americanoversight.org/american-overs…
We also filed FOIA requests with Walter Reed and the U.S. Secret Service seeking information about procedures for protecting the health and safety of the president and federal employees. americanoversight.org/investigation/…
Statements from President Trump and White House officials have done little to answer some of the nation’s most pressing questions, from the president’s condition to the timeline of events that led to his becoming ill.
On May 30, Barr gave a speech in which he said: “Groups of outside radicals and agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda.”
Surely, there had to be some kind of documentation for a claim like that — so we asked.
Of course, the Department of Justice’s response to our request doesn’t necessarily mean no related records exist at all. It is possible that some may not be subject to FOIA.
In September 2019, Attorney General William Barr reportedly traveled to Italy with John Durham to ask for help with Durham’s probe into the origins of the Russia investigation.
In response to other FOIA requests we’ve filed related to the expenses of the Durham probe, DOJ has withheld records in full, saying it will not release records related to an ongoing investigation—even as Barr has openly discussed it. americanoversight.org/barr-continues…
DOJ’s selective assertion of a privilege designed to protect ongoing investigations while the attorney general continually comments on that investigation is hypocritical and suggests the department is withholding records for political advantage.
The machines at multiple locations were not working and the poll workers were unsure when a technician would come to fix the machines. At Adams Park Library, nobody had voted as of 9 AM because of this issue.
