Star Wars: Dark Empire (1991-1992, 1994-1995) appreciation tweets, to celebrate the art of @CamKennedyArt
1/6
@CamKennedyArt So many beautiful ships in these early times of the Expanded Universe.
2/6
@CamKennedyArt Worlds Devastators also appeared in 1998 in Rogue Squadron (the LucasArts/Factor 5 game).
3/6
@CamKennedyArt What? Boba Fett didn't die in Return of the Jedi!
4/6
@CamKennedyArt Fun fact: I disliked these comics for a long time. They were "too much" different from the Expanded Universe.
Now, they're piece of art <3

The Starlight Intruder (3rd pic) is a modified MB-C1 medium transport. Seen in Shadows of the Empire (1996) & X-Wing Alliance (1999) too.
This ship also appeared in the distant background of the Firefly (2002) TV series!
@CamKennedyArt 7/6: bonus
MANY BOTHANS DIED TO BRING US THIS INFORMATION... in the EU, during the attack on the Suprosa.
First in Shadows of the Empire (book, comic, inside the ship for the game), then X-Wing Alliance (in a Y-wing)
Comics art by Kilian Plunkett (SW Rebels art director).
@CamKennedyArt The World Devastators in Dark Empire & Rogue Squadron (game, 1998).
@CamKennedyArt The original V-Wing (airspeeder) was introduced in Dark Empire too. We could fly it un Rogue Squadron.
But other than an appearance in another book, it has never been reused, and has not been reintroduced into canon under any other name.
@CamKennedyArt Now we have the Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter, introduced in SW3 (2005) and well known by Battlefront II (2017) players.
@CamKennedyArt Among the many ships introduced in Dark Empire, I have a soft spot for the E-wing.
Not only has it appeared in many books, but it has already been reintroduced into the canon (in the Poe Dameron comic series). Maybe we'll see it again soon.
@CamKennedyArt In short, I love Dark Empire, a cornerstone of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
The (Empire's) End.
@CamKennedyArt As many speak about it: I don't have any official confirmation that the Ore Crawler from SW Rebels is a reference to the World Devastators. It could! But I don't know.
A question for Andre Kirk, Kilian Plunkett or @stevenmelching
@CamKennedyArt@stevenmelching Forgot to add: the MB-C1 medium transport in Dark Empire (1), Firefly (2) and Battlestar Galactica (3).
That's the kind of winks I like.
@CamKennedyArt@stevenmelching@rianjohnson By chance, did you read Dark Empire 30 years ago too? As you said "I've heard something like this described as a Force power, like actually projecting a vision of yourself elsewhere".
Unless it was a proposition of the Story Group?
@CamKennedyArt@stevenmelching@rianjohnson They were published in Bill Smith's The Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels (March 1996), way before The Phantom Menace.
@CamKennedyArt@stevenmelching@rianjohnson I like these stories.
We started in 1991, we finished in 2019, and we went through a multimedia project, several video games, Firefly, BSG, Rebels, Doug Chiang, an unused script and the latest movies.

@Rockyramacrue@AlexJayBrady I mean, Alex Jay Brady -a celebrated artist since the beginning of this account- has transcribed the universe of Dune so well in recent years. These illustrations will be perfect on paper (even if you don't read French ^^).
There is even a poster!

Roland Emmerich (Stargate, Independence Day, Moonfall): "For me, seeing Close Encounters of the Third Kind was nearly a religious experience. I saw it on the first day in Paris in a huge theater and in English. After I saw it, I immediately got back in line and saw it again". 1/3
"It's stull my favorite film of all time. All my films are somewhat modeled after that film". 2/3
Happy birthday to John Knoll, @ILMVFX visual effects supervisor (Spaced Invaders, Star Trek Generations & First contact, SW Prequels, Mission to Mars, Avatar), Adobe Photoshop co-creator, pitched Rogue One original story, ILM chief creative officer.
Dave Filoni about Joe Johnston's Star Wars sketchbooks:
"When you opened the pages of these books, it was as if a flood of imagination poured out! By observing the different stages of development of the design of an X-Wing ship, or a creature like the Rancor, we..."

"...we understood all the thoughts that had been invested in this creation, and why they had arrived at this final result that worked so well. But I was equally impressed with the designs that had been scrapped along the way, and would have been worthy of being in a movie." 2/3
"I remembered it many years later, and I went back to this veritable treasure room filled with great ideas. I never tried to reinvent anything, nor to impose my mark on this universe."
