/8 Most of the studies explaining why some people are more distracted and annoyed by noise are done on adult populations
/8 Classroom settings are noisy and although it can mean more exchanges and discussions, it is raised as an issue by teachers and pupils
/8 We asked French primary school pupils how distracted and annoyed they were by classroom noise. They were moderately distracted/annoyed but as always there is variability.
/8 Children also reported how often they were mind-wandering and how good they thought they were at switching from one task to another.
/8 Children who reported having switching difficulties were also more distracted and annoyed by noise.
/8 Mind-wandering was related to more distraction but not directly related to more annoyance.
/8 Supports theories of mind-wandering as reflecting attentional difficulties. MW children are not ‘immune’ to their environment because they think of something else.
/8 Some insight into inter-individual differences. Papers ends with suggestions to be discussed with educators 🙂
