The fact these friends, neighbors and relatives is a mystery to him, explicable only by invoking mass hypnosis. The svengali alternative media has these poor souls in their thrall.
How the alternative media can outpersuade the prestigious, slick and powerful flagships of American journalism is never explained. It's as if the SS Minnow sank the Yamato.
The reasons why racism, the Handmaids, the KGB and similar forces have to be invoked to explain the turnabout is no prosaic reason will work. Without adducing something akin to diabolical forces and voodoo it would be wholly inexplicable.

The reason things seem surreal and crazy in Washington is the variance between expectations and outcomes. If we await what actually happens things will be clearer and less crazy.
One of the hallmarks of a complexity crisis is that formerly predictable systems become unpredictable and respond in nonlinear ways. This is true not only of Trump but a host of other events in 2020.
What we call the 2020 phenomenon is the result of the intertwining of everything plus rapid technological change. Nothing acts like it used to. A single man, event or bat can have an unfathomable impact.

What it shows is the probabilities apply to everyone including presidents. Millions are becoming positive but a smaller percentage die.

The reason 2020 seems so jinxed is that global civilization relies on natural and human networks of such complexity that their interactions generate unpredictable events with increasing frequency. It started as far back as Brexit in 2016 and has been accelerating ever since.
The understandable hope that 2021 will bring new "luck" may be cruelly dashed. The danger is that 2021 will be even stranger than 2020.
The cherished establishment goal of a "return to normalcy" may be a mirage. The old world may be gone forever and the new one disconcertingly strange.

Our caveman ancestors must have had PTSD because their lives were uniformly nasty, brutish and short. Makes you wonder how humanity made it through the ice age.

We've replaced hope with nostalgia. Vote for this or that candidate and return to the lost certainties of 2016! But that age is probably gone for keeps. Can we nerve ourselves to meet what comes with all its opportunities and dangers?

The only anyone nominated for SCOTUS should lack strong prior beliefs, whether these are called religious or ideological, is to require infants. What is required is that their legal reasoning compiles under the letter of the constitution.
The big debate seems to be over the compiler. Some believe that the some decisions ought not compile, while on the other extreme the 'living constitutionalists' believe that if a statement stops on an error messsage the solution is to rewrite the compiler.
