KAPATID embraces Reina Mae in this moment of grief. River died at the ICU of PGH at 8:50 pm, October 9, more than two weeks since she was brought to the hospital after exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. She died of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. #FreeReinaMaeNasino Image
There are no words to describe the anguish that Reina Mae is feeling now. She was denied of her right to take care of her child and to see her at the hospital while still alive and was struggling for a chance to survive.
We assert our call for the compassionate release of Reina Mae from prison to correct this blatant injustice done to her and her baby who was never given a chance to live. We ask the court and the government to allow Reina Mae to grieve with her family in this period in her life.
We reiterate the motion filed by Reina Mae’s counsels in court to seek her release, even if only temporary. As a detainee who remains to be presumed innocent under the Constitution, Reina Mae is not a flight risk.
Neither does she have any intention of fleeing. Free her. This is the least that the courts and this government can do for her and her child.
The courts and this government bear responsibility for the chain of tragic events that have transpired from the time that Reina Mae was arrested on manufactured charges of illegal possession of firearms to the time she joined 21 other political prisoners in filing a petition...
...at the Supreme Court for the humanitarian release of the sick and elderly, including pregnant prisoners like herself.

Free Reina Mae. Do it as an act of atonement and justice and moral courage.

A day before Reina Mae Nasino's filing of a motion with a Manila court, KAPATID reiterates there is no reason for the court to deny Reina Mae her right to be at the wake of River, her 3-month old daughter. #JusticeForBabyRiver #FreeReinaMaeNasino #FreePoliticalPrisonersPH Image
“The court should swiftly grant the grieving mother's appeal to visit her dead child and to be present until her baby is brought to her final resting place. For Reina Mae who barely had the chance to spend a...
...lot of time with her child, nothing will be more tragic than losing what could be her last chance to stay with her firstborn one last time,” said Fides Lim, KAPATID spokesperson.

After the tragic death of Reina Mae Nasino's 3-month old child, KAPATID pressed for her release to let her grieve the untimely demise of her firstborn and as a matter of justice as one of her counsels laid out the reasons why she does not deserve even a single day in prison. Image
“We appeal for the release of Reina Mae who lost her child without having the chance to see her alive for the last time. There is no reason for the courts to deny Reina Mae her right to visit the wake of her child and give her temporary freedom when it’s the least they can...
...do as an act of justice to redress the multiple injuries done to her, which include what could have been the preventable death of her child had a judge acted without bias,” said Fides Lim, the spokesperson of Kapatid.
