This is speculation on my part but I strongly suspect Trump had respiratory distress and viral pneumonia as @VinGuptaMD suggested today (I am also a pediatric pulmonologist and agree).

This is based on respiratory distress, withholding of his CT scan as well as the meds chosen
That’s important because CDC suggests “persons with more severe to critical illness or severe immunocompromise likely remain infectious no longer than 20 days after symptom onset” which means restricting Trump appearances
I think Trump and the WH are lying about this because he refuses restrictions and wants to campaign.

But it’s also a way to try and avoid further scrutiny to push hearings next week.

That’s why Graham won’t be tested. McConnell won’t sanction testing etc
I also suspect Trump was not routinely tested prior to diagnosis hence there is no “last negative” test to give journos.

He’s a big baby and probably scared of a swab up his nose. I bet he’s refused multiple times.

But he may have knowingly exposed Biden and many others
I think these are the questions journos need to keep asking and not accept repeated “look forward not backward” BS from the WH /fin

there's simply no question the debate was a disaster for trump and the hospitalization a second disaster, politically.

Trump can't change who he is.

Voting is going on now.

let's make happen what we see in front of our eyes.

Only then can we start to rebuild.
I'm a native New Yorker, and can't think but that the Staten Island and Long Island cops, security guards, drivers and support staff who often vote republican look at trump going for a hospital joy ride and thinking: that could be me. He's trying to kill us for a political stunt.

we need the experts like @EpiEllie and @nataliexdean to weigh in, but let's not lose sight of a few things:
1. there's a certain randomness to COVID spread along with clear "don't ever do this" things, meaning you can get away with stuff but not forever.
You can do the same thing three days in a row and it's the third time that spreads. On that day, someone was infectious, or they laughed, or the wind was wrong or... But that doesn't mean the things you did and got away with were safe.
2. we need CDC level contract tracing right now. This is needed both for the WH and the Senate, which may be different spreader events (Rose Garden and Senate lunch, e.g. though we don't know yet). It needs to include Hope Hicks and Ronna McDaniel.

so now that Trump's immediate health (next few hours) is less of a crisis, let's be clear about the Big Picture.

we are in this sitch because of trump's negligence and nonchalant approach.

his being ill enough for hospitalization directly contravenes his downplaying the virus
while we'll obviously have to wait and see how things shake out, he's off the trail for 2 weeks or so, and his flailing campaign is not built for nimble recovery.

Take hot takes about this benefitting him with a large chunk of salt. it's an operations disaster for Team Trump.
The very core of his candidacy, that he handled this virus perfectly, is refuted by everything that's happened since yesterday. Enough that even Fox is forced to cover it.

And he was already losing. /end

ACA and naked overt racism are on the ballot in the last month.

There's a white supremacist occupying the WH, encouraging racist militias.

Charlottesville revealed it, if you weren't paying attention to the Central Park 5 story.

And last night's debate broadcast it.

If you're undecided after that, check your belief system.
