Here's an idea how we can make a real difference during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. @SafeHseDenver runs an emergency shelter and a 24/7 crisis line to strategize how to escape violence. They lost $42,000 in victim assistance fee funding when courts closed due to COVID...
#HeyNext viewers support a non-profit each week via the Word of Thanks microgiving campaign. Do you think we could come up with enough $5 donations to cover SafeHouse Denver's funding gap? I'll match the first 50 $5 gifts & @SteveStaeger has the next 50: classy.org/fundraiser/295…
Since Wednesday, #HeyNext viewers have donated $26,599 of the $42,000 needed by Safehouse Denver. You can check the rolling total at the link in this thread. If you're able to give $5, thank you! If you can share this, thank you!
Generous @nexton9news viewers have donated a total of $887,010 to Colorado non-profits through Word of Thanks since June. If we can get SafeHouse Denver to our goal - we'll top the $900k mark together!

"A 9NEWS employee and a 9NEWS contractor have been taken into custody. 9NEWS has not been in contact with either and does not know where either currently is." 9news.com/article/news/c…
UPDATE: DPD just said at a news conference that one of the two people taken into custody was not directly involved in the shooting.

The racism isn’t surprising anymore but it still gives me pause to see the sheer number of Americans willing to be captured on camera cheering racism.
The lasting memory I have from The National Museum of African American History and Culture are the photos of Black children being screamed at by white adults. Wondering what kind of lives the children went on to lead. And whether the adults and their descendants are horrified.
So it stuns me that, generations later, there are so many more Americans who want to be captured in images cheering racism. And I wonder what they will think decades from now. And what their children will think if they ever see those images.

Suicide is the leading cause of death of youth in Colorado. Connecting kids to therapists quickly is challenging with some schools on remote learning. That's why #HeyNext viewers are supporting The Second Wind Fund through our Word of Thanks microgiving campaign. $46,000+ so far. Image
Second Wind Fund ensures young people at-risk for suicide quickly get treatment without red tape or huge bills. Second Wind Fund estimates that $1,000 in donations can save a kid's life. As always, I'll match the first 50 $5 donations here: coloradogives.org/SWFsavealife
Suicide prevention is one of the causes most often suggested by Next viewers since we started the Word of Thanks microgiving campaign in June.

No kid is ever lunch-shamed in Greeley-Evans District 6. If they don't have lunch money, they're given the same lunch as their classmates. The unpaid student lunch debt in Colorado's 12th largest school district was $147,819. Until #HeyNext viewers got involved this week. Image
The Greeley-Evans school district has decided not to hound families to pay off their lunch debts right now due to the economy and the pandemic. But if the district can't collect, that money will likely have to come out of the general fund. In a high-need district, that's hard. Image
This week, #HeyNext's Word of Thanks microgiving campaign is helping Greeley-Evans schools' foundation @d6success pay off as much lunch debt as possible, so families don't have to worry about it hanging over them year after year. Since Wednesday, viewers have given $50,000+! Image

We said goodbye to the sweetest boy, Porter, a year ago this week. Every beloved pet deserves the vet care he had - so this week’s Word of Thanks microgiving campaign on #HeyNext supports Denver’s low-cost vet clinic where people and pets line up before dawn hoping to be seen. Image
More than 5,000 pets a year receive treatment at @DDFL’s Solutions Veterinary Hospital. People pay what they can. Some bring cards and homemade food if that’s all they can offer. The goal is to prevent pets from being surrendered or euthanized due to their owner’s finances. Image
DDFL operates the low-cost clinic at a loss each year and they estimate they are only able to meet 5% of Denver’s need for low-cost vet care. Would you consider joining me and #HeyNext viewers so they can help more pets? Donate here: nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2… Image
