🧵 I had an unusual dream right before waking. Someone was trying to test my banking law chops and posed the following hypothetical to me:
1/
The person in my dream asked me to explain how to complete a transaction involving the deliver of one trillion dollars and the equivalent in potatoes.
So I responded in the way one would to this bat shit crazy request. I asked, "U.S. dollars"? And he said yes.
2/
Warming up to the fact pattern, I then asked him where the nearest bank was. He replied that it was an hour and a half away and that we could not use it.
My reply? We would need to use a bank. Meanwhile, I said nothing about the potatoes.
3/
Then I woke up. With questions.
Are there even $1 trillion in potatoes in the world?
Did we REALLY need a bank? Or even a local one. Maybe there was some kind of mirror trade through a commodities transaction?
I thought I might ask @davidenrich. Never mind. Bad dream.
4/4
p.s. Worldwide sales of potatoes annually are only about $4 billion.
That should say "delivery"

True story. When I was three, our apartment had a telephone with the base attached to the wall in the kitchen. The receiver was connected to the base with a long curly cord that allowed you to bring the phone with you as you walked around the kitchen or into another room.
1/
So, one day, a babysitter came to watch me so my mother could do something. Who knows what. But no one was in the apartment but me and the babysitter. Probably my father was working at the emergency room and my big brother was at school.
2/
At some point I got very hungry. But the babysitter was on the telephone. It seemed endless. I wanted lunch. I think she was ignoring me so. That wouldn’t do.

💟 A person’s sense of justice comes from a variety of sources including faith traditions and secular education. Being Catholic, Baptist, Evangelical Christian, Muslim, Jewish, other faith, agnostic or atheist doesn’t disqualify a person from or qualify them for public office

When it comes to judicial nominees, generally speaking I look at their written opinions and other public statements to predict how they might decide important cases.
2/
Therefore, I do not support Amy Coney Barrett. However, there is no nominee put forward by Donald Trump who I would support. Ruth Bader Ginsburg should not be replaced until the inauguration.

"But instead of organizing around a political solution to the Republican politicization of the courts, some Democrats remain stuck on the old rules of engagement."

"Some Democrats remain hopeful that Republicans can be shamed into doing the right thing as if the party that steps over 200,000 dead bodies to carry Trump’s golf bags is capable of feeling shame."

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN, is the agency within the Treasury Department charged with combating money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes. . What it does not do is force the banks to shut the money laundering down.”
“The networks through which dirty money traverse the world have become vital arteries of the global economy. They enable a shadow financial system so wide-ranging and so unchecked that it has become inextricable from the so-called legitimate economy.”
