Freedom of the press or freedom of the media is the principle that communication and expression through various media, including printed and electronic media, especially published materials, should be considered a right to be exercised freely.

Targeting victims such as physical abuse against journalists and prejudice is one of the other reasons for the decline in the world ranking index.

A freedom of press has always been cherished right on all democratic countries. The newspapers not only survey news but ideas, opinion n ideologies, beside much else. They r suppose to guard public interest by bringing to fore the misdeeds, failings n lapses of the govt n others

In India, being the largest democracy of the world, where the rate of literacy is alarmingly low, Freedom of Press and Media assumed great significance. It is the Press and Media which can help form the public opinion, the bedrock of the democracy.

So on one hand, democracy needs to provide freedom of the press and on the other hand, needs to handle the fake news challenges.  What exactly is fake news? Is it something new? Whether there is any law in India to check it?
