UN' 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: "Every1 has right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference, and to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers".
Freedom of the press or freedom of the media is the principle that communication and expression through various media, including printed and electronic media, especially published materials, should be considered a right to be exercised freely.

Beyond legal definitions, several non-governmental organizations use other criteria to judge the level of press freedom around the world. Some create subjective lists, while others are based on quantitative data.
freedom of the press in India is subject to certain restrictions, such as defamation law, a lack of protection for whistleblowers, barriers to information access and constraints caused by public and government hostility to journalists.

In 2020, India's press freedom rank dropped to 142 out of 180 countries in Press Freedom Index, an annual ranking of countries published by Reporters Without Borders (RWB), an international non-governmental organization dedicated to safeguard the right to freedom of information.
Targeting victims such as physical abuse against journalists and prejudice is one of the other reasons for the decline in the world ranking index.

In 2020, PCI argued that govt authorities and state police's censorship on mass media is unfavorable citing "intimidate" journalists and "curtail" press freedom. news outlets n their associated journalists were allegedly charged with sedition n criminal prosecution charges.
State of West Bengal: A little story about OpIndia that was not mentioned in the Supreme Court.

If @pbhushan1 can get away with Re 1, can we apply same on media houses to safeguard press freedom?

A freedom of press has always been cherished right on all democratic countries. The newspapers not only survey news but ideas, opinion n ideologies, beside much else. They r suppose to guard public interest by bringing to fore the misdeeds, failings n lapses of the govt n others
In India, being the largest democracy of the world, where the rate of literacy is alarmingly low, Freedom of Press and Media assumed great significance. It is the Press and Media which can help form the public opinion, the bedrock of the democracy.

there have been constant press freedom violations, including police violence against journalists, ambushes by political activists, and reprisals instigated by criminal groups or corrupt local officials.

So on one hand, democracy needs to provide freedom of the press and on the other hand, needs to handle the fake news challenges.  What exactly is fake news? Is it something new? Whether there is any law in India to check it?

(1/aki) Akshay Kumar Bhatia is never away from controversies. He has a huge following in India & Abroad, but his silence on SSR murder took every1 with surprise.
He has been looked by many as a role model but when he kept mum, his fans were taken aback.
(2/aki)He with his PR agencies, he molded his image as a nationalist by making movies and generated big box office on cinemas. He publishes ITR and tries to build an image of a proud Indian but keeping a Canadian citizenship in his closet.
(3/aki)But, his real face always come alive on TV programs. His allegations are very shocking when Mallika Dua was ousted from the reality show "The Great India Laughter Challenge." His attitude whenever he comes to Kapil Sharma show is evident.

-The photographs showing injuries on the body were removed.

(3/bot) As per meme police cyber unit, they have compiled a report wherein, they found hastags relating to SSR being used by foreign countries in foreign languages.
Funny looks, in technical terms we call them spammers.
They should understand the diff.

(4/s) A writ petition was filed by human activist in HC and the case was handed to CBI in 1993.
Inn1996, CBI submitted a final report and said can't establish suicide or murder.

The same drama is going on now with Sushant's murder.

(5/s) report was not acceptable so a 2nd CBI team was formed, which concluded the case as homicide, but couldn't establish the predators, court rejected the report again and a third CBI team was formed. It was said medical report was influenced.

Same happening
(6/s) inquest report didn't disclosed injuries on body, material evidences destroyed, cloths not subjected for forensics, photos showing injuries removed and scene of crime contaminated.

All same to Sushant's case too. 😭😭
