Found an incredible Reddit thread, "What's a rule that was implemented somewhere that massively backfired?"

Here are the best ones 🧵

1/ Alcohol bans at college football games led to increased intoxication problems b/c fans were getting really drunk before entering the stadium.
2/ When @dominos said all pizzas would be delivered in 30 minutes or less OR your pizza was FREE.

The delivery drivers kept getting into car accidents to get your pizza to you on time, so it wouldn’t come out of their pay check.

The promotion didn't last too long. Image
3/ "English law in Wales set the death penalty for stealing a sheep. Welshmen caught stealing sheep would claim to be making love to them.

They would get a lesser penalty for beastiality. The consequence of this is Welshmen gained a reputation as 'sheep shaggers'." 🐑

If @elonmusk had just left his $160 million Paypal payout in ...it would be worth $21 billion today (133x gain).

Instead, he bet literally every penny on:

• creating the 1st mass-manufacturing car company in the US in a century
• go to Mars

What a f**king legend.
*To be clear, PYPL IPO’d in 2002 and spun out of eBay in 2015.

So it wasn’t liquid stock during the entire span... speaking just to it’s valuation from $1.5B (eBay acquired) to $200B+ (today).
I may or may not have waited around the laptop for 20 minutes to make sure I could screenshot this image 🤣 Image

Pulled out some cold emails that Snowflake's enterprise sale team sent me while working at fintech firm, @Kensho.

Their cold e-mailing techniques would make @theSamParr proud hahahaha.

Here are 4 emails over two weeks: ImageImage
Not surprisingly, I received these emails at a time aggressively spent on Sales & Marketing (more than 2x in 2019 from prior year): Image
Snowflake's 3rd cold email here is actually..

...straight up gaslighting 🤣

The sales rep has my thinking -- for one second -- there was an alternative universe where I was ACTUALLY negotiating a time to speak. FML. Image

(1/5) This isn't the first time that Larry Ellison has saved some bucks on a distressed Asian asset with few buyers.

In '08, he scored a $3m property tax break after he argued in courts that there wasn't a market for his $200m replica 16th-century Japanese summer palace.🤣 Image
(2/5) The 23-acre estate sits on a hill above Silicon Valley.

It was bought for $12m in 1995 and went through 9 yrs of renos including:

• 8k sqft main house
• 3 cottages
• 100s of maple and cherry trees
• a man-made waterfall carved into rock (put there by "hand of god") ImageImageImage
(3/5) The property was assessed by the San Mateo county for $200m based on "reproduction costs".

Ellison's lawyer said it was only worth $67m (and should only be taxed at such) b/c the property suffered from "significant functional obsolescence".

1/ From October 1995 to September 1996, Tupac went on an unbelievable run of creativity including:

• 2 albums
• 3 feature films
• Songs for 6 posthumous LPs
• 12 music videos

The story of his work ethic during this period is awe-inspiring.

Thread 👇👇 Image
2/ The 11-month period of this creative explosion starts on the day Tupac is released from prison and ends on the day he dies.

The output is so prolific over this span that @SnoopDogg says Tupac "had to know" the end was coming. Image
3/ The story begins on October 12th, 1995.

After serving 9 months in prison, Tupac is bailed out by Death Row Record's Suge Knight for $1.4 million.

He immediately flies from NY to LA.

What does he do to celebrate his release? No clubs.

Just goes straight to the studio. Image
