Here's today's snapshot of each state's progress in reducing COVID cases/hospitalizations/death, via covidexitstrategy.org

Green is trending better.

Yellow is caution warranted.

Red is going downhill.

Bruised red is uncontrolled spread.
Overall, it looks worse than a week ago.

Here's Oct. 5 vs Oct. 12.
The West Coast is looking worse compared to last week.

There are still just 2 states in the country trending better right now: Maine and Vermont. It was 3 a coupla weeks ago, but New Hampshire took a turn.
This is new: Vermont is in the green, but it's seeing an astronomically high spike in positive COVID cases in the last 2 weeks.

Way higher than any other state.
Montana and Alaska have also seen particularly high spikes in positive COVID cases in the last 2 weeks.

Montana has been struggling with this for a while now.
Maine continues to be the safest state amid COVID.

Day 3 of Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing.

Dianne Feinstein opens, again, with family talk.

"I'm delighted to see your family here again. I hope they feel that very special sense of pride in you.... I was thinking of my children and grandchild."
Progressives have been fuming at Dems like Feinstein for treating this situation as business as usual.

“It’s becoming increasingly clear that Democrats are not doing enough to show that this is an illegitimate process w/ an illegitimate nominee." huffpost.com/entry/democrat…
Barrett, again, won't say whether a president can unilaterally delay an election.

She says she won't discuss “legal hypotheticals."

Today, Senate Democrats spent hours pressing Amy Coney Barrett on health care, abortion and her potential role in a 2020 presidential election dispute.

She dodged all of their questions. m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5f…
Progressives have been urging Democrats to show a fiery, united opposition to this entire process, framing Trump’s Supreme Court pick as an illegitimate nominee in an illegitimate confirmation hearing.

That... didn’t happen. huffpost.com/entry/amy-cone… Image
Amy Klobuchar brought it, though.

“We need a bit of a reality check that this isn’t normal right now,” she said. "We shouldn’t be doing this. We should be passing coronavirus relief.” huffpost.com/entry/amy-cone…

Dianne Feinstein's first question to Amy Coney Barrett in her confirmation hearing: I was wondering if you could introduce us to your children and family.
Feinstein: Do you agree with Antonin Scalia's view that Roe v Wade was wrongly decided?

Barrett: I can't pre-commit or say, "yes, I'm going in with some agenda," because I'm not.
Back to praising Barrett on family stuff.

"You've got a lovely family. You understand all the implications of family life," said Feinstein. "I'm proud of you for that."

Oh my god Kamala Harris is virtually attending the Judiciary Committee hearing and for some reason, for the first 20 secs, her video didn't work and her voice was echoing throughout the room like the voice of God. 😂
Her video works now. Image
"This hearing should have been postponed," says Harris. "The decision to hold this hearing now is reckless and places facilities' workers, janitorial staff and congressional aides and Capitol Police at risk."

"Judge Barrett, you and I have things in common," Mike Lee tells Barrett.

All I can think is, yeah you've both had COVID and Lee is here in this committee room 10 days after testing positive.
Does Lee have a mask on in this hearing as he's talking?

No.
It was just 11 days ago that Mike Lee was attending a 90-minute Judiciary Committee hearing, talking and shouting for 10 minutes with no mask on.

He announced the next day he tested positive for COVID. huffpost.com/entry/mike-lee…

Here we go: the Senate begins Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing.

Dems are heading in knowing they can't do much to stop this. But progressives want them to fight tooth and nail -- and some are furious that they're not. huffpost.com/entry/democrat… w/ @igorbobic
Even if Dem senators can't stop this, progressives are demanding they do everything possible to show this rushed, partisan process is not business as usual.

They want a big asterisk next to Barrett's name if she's confirmed.
A thing infuriating progressives: nearly all Judiciary Dems took a courtesy call with Barrett last week -- a far cry from how Republicans treated Obama's SCOTUS pick, Merrick Garland, in 2016.

GOP senators refused to meet him, even hold a hearing for him or give him a vote.
