This comes from a dear friend working on a project to release incarcerated survivors of domestic violence from prison: A few weeks ago, Patrice Smith was released after 21 yrs - she was sent to prison at 16 for killing the 71 yr old reverend who had been sexually assaulting her
In addition to abusing Patrice, the reverend had asked her to recruit other teenagers for commercial sex & threatened to tell her father about their “relationship" if she didn't continue to submit to sexual assault
Patrice is one of the first survivors to benefit from the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act in New York. This is the first re-sentencing to be granted over the prosecutor’s objection, and Patrice is the first person to be freed who was potentially facing life in prison.
With the help of @survivepunish, Patrice's family put together a GoFundMe to help her start her life after decades in prison. Please consider donating & sharing.

What happened to Patrice is so unjust; helping her start again is the least we can do

I can see the uptick in donations, you guys - thank you! Please keep it up!!

When we talk about supporting survivors, it means so much more than just believing them - we need to help those punished by a racist, misogynist criminal justice system, every step of the way
The fundraiser has gone from a little over 3k to over 9k in less than two hours - you all are amazing and wouldn't it be even more amazing to get to the 25k goal by the end of today??

Watching this latest episode of The Vow I realize that Keith Raniere was the original incel
He literally says men are prisoners of women's control over sex and I am ready to time travel to Albany 2012 to fight him
And that women have a princess fantasy and men hate women because they have to spend their lives catering to them 🙃

Each face she made was perfectly toned and timed, and treated Pence with the response that he deserved; speaking and looking at him like a toddler who needs to be taught why you can’t do bad things: Patient, if a little put out. Smarter than him, but willing to explain.

1) That's stupid
2) This has nothing to do with Barrett being an "accomplished woman" and everything to do with venerating a particular brand of femininity (ie pretty white mothers who read as docile)

Like no one was worried about coming across as a bully when questioning Cecile Richards or Hillary Clinton
To a certain extent, this is what made Christine Blasey Ford difficult for the GOP - she read as quiet and docile. That's why they didn't attack her as a liar, but instead kept saying she was "mistaken."

Wedding culture - where people feel so beholden to indulge a couple on their "big day" - has always been awful. Now it's deadly.
I would read a piece about the link between people showing up to weddings despite their Covid fears & the shift in wedding culture from one where a couple graciously hosts family & friends to the expectation that said guests "owe" you
