I've had my beefs with Greenpeace over the years, but reprimanding a Black organizer for spending too much time on Black Lives Matter protests and jail support in this political moment is a real wtf. Firing a Black, disabled trans person during a pandemic is too.
One month's pay & housing is not enough to help someone start over right now, and even if they really needed to part ways, Greenpeace could've offered a lot more in the way of assistance, or not required an NDA. They know there are no jobs. They KNOW this. bit.ly/helpash
Greenpeace complaining about Ash spending too much time on jail support is shitty in general, but y'all COVID-19 is racing thru jails, prisons & detention centers. Black people are at higher risk. Supporting arrestees is even more life & death than usual. bit.ly/helpash
Remember when that group of doctors came out in support of the protesters bc structural racism was also driving up the COVID death toll, so the issues were related? It would be dope if Greenpeace made those kinds of connections between prisons and climate, and you know, survival.

This is why I talk about how fascism changes us, whether we are conscious of it or not. It doesn't just affect its adherents. It shifts the moral ground beneath our feet and makes us more capable of tolerating atrocity. We must build around our collective well being instead.
People sometimes hear me say "we must resist the further normalization of mass death" and say it is already fully normalized. They simply are not talking about the level of human disposal, suffering and potential extermination that I am.
Fascism is not the process of people who didn't suffer before suffering alongside those who always have. It involves a lot people who didn't before getting fucked over AND people who were already getting fucked over experiencing new levels of horror, suffering and annihilation.

I am glad their son recovered without symptoms. I fear people caged in the prison industrial complex, including migrant children, may not fare as well.

I've also seen a Greenpeace employee tell a huge crowd that ableism only refers to physical disabilities -- and it wasn't a hot take, they legit just didn't know better and were somehow leading the training, so yeah. There is a rich history of them making BS pronouncements.
I seriously had to bring that training to a halt, as a participant, and explain to everyone (a mostly abled crowd) that we were witnessing ableism in real time and should learn from what was happening. The moment was not super appreciated.
So when I heard what Ash experienced, it was sadly consistent with things I have witnessed in the past. The transphobia, ableism and anti-Blackness they described are not surprising, unfortunately. You always hope orgs will improve, but they often don't. bit.ly/helpash

Most people do nothing to act or organize against voter suppression, or even think about it, until they're on here on election day, frantically yelling at people to stay in line. Maybe fight that shit ahead of time instead of waiting to yell at people.
I am really irked by this narrative about the Noble Voter who stays in line all day. It creates a standard by which others are judged, which is bullshit, bc the impacts of voter suppression are not the fault of the voter, and that BS also just lets everyone else off the hook.
It's like when people work three jobs to pay the rent and folks act like that's some heroic work ethic shit, as opposed to them struggling to survive the violence of capitalism and the gig economy.

My friend @Ash_Bash23 is a Black, trans disabled activist who was recently fired by Greenpeace in the middle of a pandemic. Ash turned down a small severance that would've required them to sign a non-disclosure agreement that I'm glad they didn't sign. bit.ly/helpash
Because while one month’s pay and housing is more than most people get upon being fired, it is not enough to start over during a pandemic -- especially for a Black, trans, disabled person. They deserve so much more, fam. bit.ly/helpash
