The size and makeup of Amy Coney Barrett’s family doesn’t impress me, nor does it interest me. I don’t find it qualifying or disqualifying. There are a whole lot of other things about this rushed, forced, sham of a confirmation hearing that are worthy of our attention.
Barrett has shown she's untrustworthy. Lots of “I don’t recall hearing Trump say that." And "I don't know if it’s illegal to intimidate voters…”
I mean. It’s 2020. What do you mean you "don’t have firm views on climate change?"
If she was trustworthy, and had moral convictions, she would say: I’m honored, I want the job, but let’s take this up in a few short weeks after the election.
Barrett knows the President backing her is immoral in every possible way.
Can you imagine being of sound moral judgement and being willing to be placed on the court by an impeached President who doesn’t pay taxes, launders money for Russian oligarchs,...
... has 26 credible sexual assault accusations filed in court against him, let 230,000+ preventable deaths happens on his watch, consistently shares misinformation and stokes hate that gets people killed, criminally uses public funds and resources for his personal enrichment,...
... and who relishes humiliating his many wives, by publicly bragging about cheating on them?
Barrett knows that there is no mandate to rush to fill this seat. The polls are clear. She knows there’s a pandemic and people are suffering and that holding this joke of a hearing means the Senate is not working to bring relief to the American people.
Barrett can’t claim morality and go along with this. I appreciate ambition in women and can imagine she feels she has to grab this opportunity to elevate herself, ignoring those who will be harmed. But surely she must know she loses any moral credibility or trust by doing so.
As we learned from Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, Barrett was chosen by the Federalist Society to do 5 very specific things: overturn Roe, overturn Gay Marriage, get rid of ACA, weaken the Civil Jury, weaken corporate oversight, and increase voter suppression.
She knows this is why she was chosen and what is expected of her. By participating in this sham she has agreed to the con. She also knows the bulk of the country doesn’t want any of those things. Which makes her an extremest and an elitist.
Is she expecting to be respected and beloved? She will be hated from day one by most of the country. The bulk of the country has no interest in overturning the ACA or Roe; has no interest in filling this seat before the election.
Barrett won't even be taken seriously by those who currently support her, because they know her Supreme Court Seat was bought and paid for. Just like Kavanaugh's seat was bought and paid for.
And not for nothing, Barrett should never have been on the appellate court in the first place. She took the spot of a Black woman named Myra Selby.
Which reminds me, if he gets to fill a SC seat, Biden has pledged to put a Black woman on the court.
The whole rushed, sham of a hearing is an embarrassment. The Republicans promised to support the candidate before they even knew who it would be, so the hearing is just a show. It’s a joke.
It’s yet another stain on our country put there by Republican corruption.

Hey @MikeBloomberg or @BillGates or any of the billionaires. In the mood to be a hero? How about you offer to pay Trump’s $400 million debt in exchange for his whole crew (Kushner, Ivanka, Jr, Eric, Pence, etc.) resigning immediately?
Just think: with competent national leadership we could have covid-19 in check by the election, which would allow people to safely go back to school and work. Major bonus: there would be no question about a peaceful transition of power.
To be clear, even with his debts paid, there are still PLENTY of opportunities to bring criminal charges against him.
I don't want him to walk away with no justice. But I want him to walk away today. Because every day he's in office he makes our lives worse.
Hey there! I see lots of new faces. Welcome! Thanks for following. Here's a photo of my family. I've also prepared a handy list of my four most retweeted threads for you.
First up: A thread about protecting your family. If you don't like mentions of the bible, that's fine, just start with the 3rd tweet.
Next up: The first thread I ever wrote, and which has been my pinned tweet for two years now: A thread about irresponsible ejaculations and how they cause all unwanted pregnancies.
I saw a tweet where someone described that when they find out someone they know personally supports Trump, they lose all respect for them instantly. I liked it and retweeted it, but stopped short of sharing it on Instagram.
Why?

I suppose because I also know Trump supporters in real life, and they already know I hate Trump, and know that I will frequently criticize Trump supporters as a group, but I’ve hesitated to tell them directly that I’ve lost respect for them individually.

But I woke up this morning, read reports of the final night of the RNC, grew deeply angry, and now my hesitation is gone.

This is how I, a 45-year-old white woman and mother of 6, currently at her peak Karen power, went from assuming police work was a necessary part of functional communities, to becoming a passionate advocate for #abolishthepolice#defundthepolice, over the course of one week.

Have you ever been to a gymnastics hall? You walk in and the whole environment is set up so that it’s really easy to jump, tumble, flip, handstand, and cartwheel. It’s like you walk in, and can’t help yourself. You start doing gymnastics immediately.

Have you ever seen a cop’s uniform? The whole thing, including every accessory, zipper, and badge, is designed to intimidate and easily inflict violence. It’s like they can’t help themselves. Their uniform makes it so easy for them to consider a violent solution.

For Memorial Day, we went to the WWII American Military Cemetery that overlooks the D-Day beaches. We knew the grounds would be closed, but that’s okay, because there are lots of memorials outside the grounds, and many paths that lead down to Omaha Beach.
On the drive from our house to the D-Day beaches, there are WWII cemeteries from lots of different countries, not just America. And I was thinking about how much sacrifice and effort went into attempting to defeat white supremacy, and the nazis — on a national and global scale.
But now, it’s all back again (I know it was never fully gone). There are many Americans openly and proudly aligning themselves with white supremacy, anti-semitism, and nazis — and trying to call it patriotism. It makes me sad and angry, and worried for my broken country.
@tannerguzy@MetalPresby The Central Park photos a decade ago were the first time our family photos went viral, and since then it's happened pretty much every year. This pattern-on-pattern shoot was especially memorable:
