Following the steps of Appar, Annamalaiyar Arappani Kuzhu has revived several dilapidated temples. Today Let us see the successful revival of Sri AdiKamakshi sametha Sri Karkateshwarar temple, Manavur,TN. @punarutthana

Manavur is near the famous Thiruvalangadu. The Lord here is also called Thiru Nandeeswarar. This ancient temple with glorious history was in ruins until 26.10.2014 when Kuzhu did Uzhavarapani by removing overgrown vegetation, cleaning and planting trees.

The temple was restored to its past glory with efforts of villagers & devotees culminating in Kumbabhishekam on 27.01.2019. Though I posted a short thread before, I wished to highlight the sthala purana in detail here. Please read on.

Sthala puranam: Once Jayanthan, son of Lord Indra was cursed by Sage Athri due to his inappropriate behaviour. He took the form of crab (Nandu/karkataka) due to the curse. As he repented & prayed, Sage Athri directed him to do penance in Manavur near Thiruvalangadu.

..where Lord is in Nithya thandavam as wished by Karaikkal Ammaiyar. In Manavur, Lord emerged as divine lingam from soil as result of his severe penance. Jaya than created a pond nearby for Pooja and continued his penance for long. Eventually he was cured of his curse.

The sthala puranam also says that Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankara visited this temple and prayed Sri AdiKamakshi & Karkateshwarar before proceeding to Kanchipuram. In 1938, Mahaperiyava stayed and worshipped here for 6 days. The Lord here is known for curing cancer.

This is also the parihara sthala for Karkataka Rashi related doshams.
Such glorious temple was restored back and it was acknowledged by heavy dark clouds during Kumbabhishekam day.
