Sir, I have been thinking about this beautiful movement of ours #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG and I remember being teary when it started. Never in my life have I witnessed an organic protest... This is a first!

However, my worry is that we are not striking while the iron is hot.
We need to be strategic in our clamour for change and protest is just a part of this process.

The Blacks in Montgomery applied strategy by boycotting the public transport system for over a period of one year till their demands were met. Despite the inconveniences!
Any movement that doesn't give you a set of responsibilities is bound to be catastrophic.

The Police is an organisation infested with corruption and moral decay and I believe the bad eggs we encounter are probably victims of this system.
If the menace being perpetuated by these erring officers are not beneficial to those they report to, we would not be protesting.

I think we are making scapegoats of officers who are victims and puppets in the hands of their masters.
Moreover, these Officers are Nigerians with families who live in society too.

We have all seen their basic salaries, we know how awful the administration of their pension is.

They have also witnessed the horrible end of their colleagues due to the failure of a derelict system.
The basic human instinct for survival kicked in, albeit to our detriment.

So far, we have shown unity and managerial prowess. The world and our leaders are witnesses to this glaring truth.

Now is the time for strategy! We must become tactical and proactive.

I will explain how.
The massive donations that have accrued can be utilised as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility for this protest.

Here, we can reward competent Officers, renovate Police Stations that have good records and do whatever we deem appropriate to establish the change we want.
Sine the Government has proven to be sluggish, we can take responsibility and use this as an avenue to win the loyalty of the system we are fighting both for and against.

Imagine Tech guys helping the Police force improve its database and IT. Training Police Officers too.
Or young Engineers renovating some stations with innovative designs and other professionals training Officers on whatever we agree as necessary for a functional Nigerian Police Force.

The ideas we can generate are limitless if we come together to brainstorm.
We need an intellectual perspective to this protest, thereby making it so effective it becomes a reference point for nations and generations to come.

We seem not to have learnt an important lesson - never to wait for the Government to get everything done.
In secondary schools, when a class rep fails to submit your assignment, you don't sit back and fail. You go submit yourself!

When leaders fail to act right, the onus is on you who has been acting right in your personal capacity to stand up and take responsibility.
This will awaken leaders from their slumber and force them to take their responsibilities seriously. No one wants to be pushed aside.

There is a lot at stake and this is a defining moment. We have to get it right!
I am super proud of us and I hope you understand my drift.

Lastly, we cannot move forward by destroying or belittling positive legacies that got us here. We need the guidance and wisdom of those who walked while we crawled... who spoke while we stuttered.
As youths, no matter the intensity of our passion, we are largely inexperienced.

Hence, we ought to align with those who have gone ahead of us; whose works have stood the test of time, whose ideals and values mirror ours as regard this fight.

What an elder sees sitting...
It is never about the personal... but the common good. I hope my opinion is not misconstrued.

United we stand, divided we crumble.

Excerpts from The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. to help shed light on the way to go as regard the #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG protest going on across the country.

A thread.
Before the Boycott started, Martin Luther King Jr. thought about the morality of the method of protesting - the Boycott.

In spite of the fact that the Black community had a legitimate demand, they still thought about the morality of their method.

Would anyone suffer unjustly? Image
On the first day of the protest, Martin Luther King Jr. noticed that at the peak of the morning traffic, no more than eight Negro passengers rode the bus.

Almost everyone in the Black community cooperated.

Now, what happened next? Image

Sir, I believe most of us have narcissistic tendencies. Our actions scream selfishness but our words deny same. We are slavishly preoccupied with personal gain but not the collective narrative (common good).

The rut of our narcissism is evident in our leadership. I'll explain.
Jordan Peterson, during a lecture, said that Democracy is derived from the word Demon which Socrates defined as a moral guide (i.e. conscience).

The voice you hear when you are about to do something wrong and which if you yield to enables you make wise decisions.
A democratic state is the emerging consequence of the decisions of its citizens. The wiser their decisions, the more upright and functional the state becomes and vice versa. (It's no rocket science!)

Hence, the state can only function if people attend to their consciences.
