On #Madrasas, 9 PM Nationalists should know some facts:
1 Many madrasas offer religious as well as non-religious education. Increasingly, many also offer modern skills such as computer literacy
2 How many Muslim kids go to Madrasas? Only 3%
3 A school offering religious...
...instruction is protected by one's fundamental rights under Articles 25, 26 & 30. Demonising Madrasas & the children who study in them is bad faith propaganda
4 GoI has funded Madrasa development for 20 years. While @PMOIndia has reduced the amount to 120 cr from 375 crore...
...even he hasn't done away with it. In fact, 6 state governments, including UP give grants to Madrasas. Governments have a duty to improve school education for all. What will 9 PM nationalists do when they realise that their Masters have been....*gasps*..."funding" Madrasas?!
5 Muslims have the highest number of kids outside school & this is only because of poverty. Set up quality public schools in our areas, not police stations. Ensure that our kids have access to scholarships so that they don't drop out due to financial strain. This is our priority

#HyderabadRains I've personally seen the devastation that the deluge has caused to people in Hyderabad Parliament Constituency & Rajendernagar. People have lost their life savings, they've also lost essential all household items: stoves, clothes, utensils @TelanganaCMO [1]
I urge @TelanganaCMO to help these families get back on their feet. They're in distress & need urgent relief. According to GO MS 2 of 2015, houses that have suffered serious/partial damage are entitled to 95,100 rupees. 75% of this amount is to come from Govt of India [2]
In GHMC & its adjoining municipalities, the destruction due to flash-floods has been total. It is essential that the relief is given immediately. I understand that the State's finances are in a difficult situation due to the Centre's refusal to pay GST compensation [3]
THREAD: BJP was a strong votary of NRC in Assam. After the people of Assam went through a harrowing experience just to get themselves listed, BJP was disappointed because it didn't exclude enough Muslims. The bogeyman of 'millions of illegal immigrants' was busted. Now...
...they're trying to discredit the final list & restart the whole procedure so that an "adequate" number of Bengali Muslims can be excluded
They're using administrative trickery to say that the final NRC wasn't published & so it can be changed. It was published on 31 August 2019
The powers of LRCR & DRCR can ONLY be exercised before publication of NRC not after. RGI is yet to NOTIFY the final NRC. Any changes after publication of NRC are patently illegal
Put an end to this cumbersome process, NOTIFY the list. Don't drag it on for your political ends
Why does this statement not say that China is in control of 1000 sq. km of territory that previously we used to patrol? Who's held responsible for this illegal occupation?
Was @PMOIndia right in saying that no Indian territory is occupied & there have been no intrusions?
Remember @AmitShah's "will give life for Aksai Chin" statement in December last year? Have you backtracked from this position & decided to cede territory to China in Ladakh?
How did we lose 20 brave personnel in Galwan? What happened on that night?
Hon'ble @loksabhaspeaker sir separation of powers is part of basic structure of Constitution. Parliament has the power & duty to question the govt. We're elected to ask questions & hold the govt accountable. A session that takes up only govt business prevents us from doing so
There's a requirement for 15 days' notice period for questions & I request that questions from members be accepted starting today so that the House can take up questions well within time. It's also your discretion to reduce the notice period u/r 33 of LS Rules of Procedure
One may also consider a single day's sitting for only Questions. In any case, nothing prevents the govt from answering unstarred questions
Similarly Hon'ble Speaker enjoys the discretion to issue a revised bulletin that accounts for private members business & questions
THREAD: Supreme Court's Puttaswamy judgement stated very clearly that privacy is a fundamental right. There's a huge risk when our personal info is used without our consent. Most importantly, facial recognition technology is unreliable & biased. This is why I'll be submitting...
a Private Members' Bill banning use of facial recognition & remote biometric surveillance technology. Such technology can record & use your gait to identify to you Face recognition technology is inaccurate in identifying dark people women, persons with disabilities & young people
The accuracy of these technologies depends on the database. These databases are themselves riddled with bias. For example, a database of arrested people will obviously have an over-representation of SCs, STs & Muslims.
THREAD: CM of Uttar Pradesh has replaced rule of law & due process with encounters. This isn't just a formality. It's the very basis of protecting us from a tyrannical govt. Cops don't have power to punish anyone. Except in UP, where encounters are carried out without any proof
Till December 2019, UP police had conducted 5200 encounters. Apart from people who have been killed, many have been subjected to half encounters-shot in the legs. With bullet injuries and imprisonment, they have been denied treatment and dealing with septesimia among others.
Most of the people subjected to half encounters are also Muslim, Dalit & OBC. All of them are from working class background. Most of them between the age of 17-40 ( the prime age for working men). Instead of gathering evidence & going to court - cops have used encounters.
