"Why We Joined Bon Appétit" Because @CondeNast and @BonAppetit needed some new BIPOC workers to parade around as proof of their diversity?
#1 This issue was not whether Bon Appetit showed diversity in video or in print. The issue was pay discrepancy and how BIPOC workers were being treated behind the camera; behind the affable sitcom-like "performance". This was not addressed here.
#2 This real problem was and continues to be white washed or denied. On August 6th, Ms. Chopra tweeted her about BA hire; not one hour after Priya, Gaby, Sohla, and Rick notified their fans that BA/Conde Nast continued to refuse to pay them equitably for their video work.
#3 This timing of Ms. Chopra's tweet was intentional. She may have claimed that "real and meaningful" changes were on the horizon, but the opposite is true.
#4 That same day (8/6), a Conde Nast spokesperson told #NYTimes that there is no pay discrepancy or institutionalized racism at their company, and promptly offered Ms. Chopra's hire as proof. The spokesperson attempted to redefine institutionalized racism as "industry standards".
#5 These true issues will never be addressed or rectified as this is how @CondeNast makes money. They just hope we all forget. My guess is that most or many of your white viewers could care less. I just unsubscribed to the Channel.
