Four months ago, I didn't know Roam, I didn't know what smart notes where and I was a happy "reader" of things on the Internet. #roamcult
Then I got an itch to go back to school, to pursue a Master in Social Entrepreneurship--> I am an entrepreneur that always has been passionate about social causes, and I believe in the power of businesses to create positive change.
One of the things I will be required to tell when I submit my application to the applications committee will be how is my academic writing. Well that is non-existent, because, my bachelor studies didn't required me to do a bachelor thesis...
...and the essays I wrote during my academic years aren't that good (the level was very low and no one really taught us how to tackle essays effectively)(I know I know). Plus that was a long time ago, so almost zero experience.
(Un)fortunately I was too late for applying for the ongoing batch of the Social Entrepreneurship, which opened up a window of self improvement and the acquisition of the skills needed to succeed before applying again next spring.
Obviously my priority was acquiring academic writing, and by luck, fate or just my [[unconscious brain]] being helpful, I stumbled upon @RoamResearch, watched some youtube videos and here we go down the rabbit-hole.
I realised I was lacking a lot of organisation skills, content producing skills, and I had no idea what smart notes were.
Then @LaptopLifeLisa offered a beta course on Academic Writing from her non-academic perspective! using @RoamReserach and I jumped right in.
Lisa-Marie's program is blowing my mind. She is teaching me; how to organise my life, and what to read, how to read and how to produce content from it, in the form of an academic writing, as a phD Thesis, an I guess, whatever written form I like.
I am still taking all in, and venturing into the Smart note system, but I feel finally (finally!) that I will be able to complete a writing project.... ever!
It is also a deep healing process: during my university studies I felt I wasn't smart enough - I see now that it came from my lack of organisation skills and managing texts skills, and the lack of knowing how to make connections within my ideas and produce something with them.
I am hoping that during the next 2-3 months I will get really good at note-taking & life-managing and be able to understand deeply how a thesis is created, and start practising with small articles and essays that I will assign myself.
Next step will be to sit on a Level C English test after a previous study time of 2-3 months. My English is very basic at the moment, I want to expand my vocabulary and jump into my next level, eliminate all these bad habits and grammar errors....
that are probably making you cringe when reading this... And then, go deeper into the Social Entrepreneurship field, start reading a few books and articles, so I can nail my application and get started on September 2021.
**I also want to add that on the meanwhile I have been accepted to the Quantic EMBA program, and currently debating internally if I should go for it and change/modify my plans, or stay with my original intention of the Social Entrepreneurship Master studies.
Or keep learning on my own with the help of twitter :)

(thank you this was my first thread :) )
