They're just so freaking *irresponsible* with how they report on things. And I know supposedly it's all about money and clicks and ratings and whatnot but I don't actually think it is, I think it is ACTUALLY about propping up existing power structures
There's a bit in Susan Faludi's Backlash where she talks about how patriarchal male TV network execs will make these decisions -- for example to screw around Cagney & Lacey -- and they will TELL you, if you ask them, "oh, it's about ratings" & everybody accepts that, but --
If you look at the numbers, it doesn't bear it out.
These execs are making decisions that actually *harm* the supposedly all-important bottom line in order to enforce patriarchy, and I think we've seen them do the same thing to maintain racism and other inequities.

So this is my theory: a lot of the time people use "Capitalism" as an excuse to do wicked things that aren't even done to make money per se, they're done to maintain power hierarchies.
Which I guess is why I think we can't separate the struggle to end Capitalism FROM the struggle to end white Christian patriarchy & is why I get so frustrated with "class only!" leftist types.
