Today is the day for #InternationalSlothDay! I've drawn #SciArt of #sloths including giant browser Megatherium, giant digger Lestodon, freshwater swimmer Ahytherium, and tree climber Bradypus! More will be added through this thread...
Also i add my other drawing for the sea #sloth, thalassocnus. This one was used for Palaeocast Art competition, but i didn't win anyway...
Here's my size comparison of the #sloths i've been drawing, sorry if the scaling is innacurate...
Now we go to my Deviantart links and other facts about these sloths!
#Megatherium americanum was one of the most charismatic pleistocene megafauna. Despite being a #sloth, this guy is as big as an African elephant! With length of 6 meters, and standing up to 4 meters. Not only capable to stand, this guy can walk bipedally!
#Lestodon armatus is a fairly large #sloth, with length of 4.6 meters and weighing around 2.85 tonnes, and this guy is a digger too! It made burrows for their homes. Their large size make these burrows practically a cave! Large enough for everybody!
#Ahytherium aureum is another aquatic #sloth besides the infamous Thalassocnus. But unlike thalassocnus, this sloth is a freshwater swimmer too! It was found in brazil, where it was basically a sloth version of manatee!
#Thalassocnus yaucensis is a species of the infamous sea #sloth belong in genus Thalassocnus. This sloth used its heavy limbs to paddle along the ocean bottom to search for seagrass, because these sloths had no choice when the other habitat was desert!
And finally, the #sloth we know and love, #Bradypus variegatus or Brown Throated Three Toed Sloth! These sloths are so slow, even algae grow on their fur! Despite being slow, they'r 3x faster in water than they are in land!
