We need to talk about how the Long Game

Is the only game you should play

Most of us seek the "easiest way out" and "quick wins."

But, when we pursue quick money, attention, or status

We end up playing the short game

///THREAD///
We all seek the same thing:

Freedom

Or our version of it

We are predictable

Chasing the same thing and wanting to get there as quickly as we can
This makes the long game the path least traveled

The one that plays this game is not interested in quick wins or easy solutions

They end up doing things most people are unwilling to do
But how do you join them?

Well it starts with a shift in your mindset in 3 areas

Time, Focus, and Resilience
Time

Choosing to play the long game

Helps you realize that you can leverage time

It becomes a tool

You decide to work on ideas and projects that compound
By working on things that build on each other

You will improve in the long-term and able to connects dots between subjects
Also, you will sacrifice the quick, short-term wins that end up being a distraction

Ignoring every shiny new object that comes along

Bouncing around will only ever give you incremental success at best
To build something that lasts, you don't focus on the competition

You dedicate your time to the creation of your art

And art transcends time
Focus

You must learn to manage and focus your energy

Managing your focus requires strength

You choose to do less

But this allows you to go further
Focus relates to time as you optimize towards a destination

When you have a refined focus on your key areas

You can sustain your energy for more extended periods
If you can, you should outsource, delegate, and even ignore

What you don't need to do

Freeing yourself to focus your energy on your key ideas
Resilience

When you choose to play the long game, you are more likely to build healthy levels of resilience

When you choose a longer time frame, you reduce risk and improve your ability to succeed

It also helps you avoid the risk of burnout
Pursuing the long game is a competitive advantage

Simply, you must replace what is easy to do with what others are unwilling to do

Pursuing this path is challenging, and there may be times when you have to act fast
But it leverages time, so it becomes your ally

Creates focus, which helps your energy

And allows you to develop resilience

Choosing the long game lets you devote your time and focus

On creating a resilient life that produces art that could last lifetimes

Your EGO is not the enemy

It is an unwieldy warrior that needs discipline from its commander

7 tips on how to control your Ego

///THREAD/// Image
1. Stop getting offended

The behavior of others isn't a reason to get upset

If you let things offend you it only weakens your energy

As Christopher Hitchens says, "Those who are determined to be 'offended' will discover a provocation somewhere."
Your ego is working to convince you that the world should be how you want it to be; this is stupid

Please stop it

Be unpredictable or be left behind

Living in set patterns can be a disadvantage

One impressive part of human behavior is that we have the power to be unpredictable

///Thread/// Image
Many if not all animals live in set patterns

This is why humanity has been able to domesticate them

Or hunt and kill them
Humans can alter their behavior at will

To overcome the weight of routine and change habits

This can be helpful to become healthier and smarter

But it can also be used to outmaneuver competitors in life

Six Quick Steps to Thinking Systemically

How to fix issues in your life

Or within the worlds you work

///Thread///
Step 1: Identify the issues

The first step in solving a problem is to understand it

Look deeply at the whole system/team rather than individual parts

Map the issues visually, see how the system/team works together.
Step 2: Track the system/team

When thinking about a problem, we are influenced by the current situation

This can affect the analysis

Most problems should follow a time curve

Showing it as a one-off or reoccurring issue

All issues should be tracked with time before acting.
