Well it’s been a ‘bit’ of a day here in @Royal_Greenwich & I want to be clear with residents about what’s happening with the @TfL negotiation and what it means for you here in #Greenwich - the negotiations are ongoing but here’s what we know so far...

@BorisJohnson is demanding that the congestion charge is increased to include the south circular. Any #Greenwich resident driving in it would face a £15 charge. This would affect thousands of our residents and more than 4 million Londoners.

@BorisJohnson is demanding that the zip card is scrapped for 32,000 children & young people in #Greenwich. The @Conservatives are planning to make 32,000 children & young people in #Greenwich poorer. They may talk about levelling up but want to increase your bills each week.

@BorisJohnson & the @Conservatives are planning to introduce a new council tax precept to make everyone pay for transport. They haven’t specified the amount.

@BorisJohnson & the @Conservatives are planning to remove the free travel for people aged 60+ who have a photocard. A generation of people born in the 50s who’ve built this country. He wants you to pay for this pandemic.

Finally, @BorisJohnson & the @Conservatives are planning inflation busting fare rises. Residents in #Greenwich will have to pay more to use trains, buses & tubes because of them. The complete & utter contempt they are showing for Londoners is staggering.

This comes at the end of a day where we’ve seen awful scenes in Manchester. Where @BorisJohnson & the @Conservatives have refused to listen to what’s needed. It’s clear tonight that they are coming for us now. Here in London. And by us, I mean you, your families, your businesses.

These proposals will have a devastating effect on our borough & our city. In March, we had 3,052 residents on Universal Credit. Tonight, it’s 4,363. Here in #greenwich people are getting poorer. These proposals will make that worse.

43% of children in #greenwich have gone to sleep tonight living in poverty. We’ve over 600 more children eligible for free school meals since September. Why does @BorisJohnson & the @Conservatives think they should pay the price for this pandemic ?

I’m sorry to be so direct but this is incredibly grim news for our borough. A set of proposals that will make thousands & thousands of residents poorer. And these are political choices. @BorisJohnson bailed out private train operators. But thinks you should pay.

I’ll endeavour to keep everyone updated as we find out more about what’s going on & what it means for you, and for us. Myself & the whole @greenwichlabour family will be working with @SadiqKhan & @Len_Duvall to get the best deal for #Greenwich

We have heard noises from the @GreenwichTories too over the weekend. Well it’s decision time. Are they going to support our fight to scrap every single one of these devastating proposals, or are they going to join @greenwichlabour in a unified fight to stand up for #Greenwich ?
