Young is reading a declaration of racism as a public health crisis. 84 cities/towns, 42 counties have declared that racism is, in fact, a public health crisis
We've seen one example of this in the disparities of COVID cases and hospitalizations, which disproportionately affect communities of color.
She had a proposal about testing but I missed it bc my dog was ralphing (again)
Brockett on board, though he notes that the city can't do it alone. But hopefully BoCo will be on board with... whatever it was.
We're on the consent agenda, btw. Taking a quick second to talk about financial auditing of the city. Boulder just did an RFP and picked a company to do those for the next 5 years (the same one as the past 5 years).
Here's a short presentation in case you care. www-static.bouldercolorado.gov/docs/Item_3E_-…
RFP = Request For Proposals. It's a competitive bidding process that gov'ts have to do when hiring out jobs.
Yates going to vote against council's endorsement of 6 state ballot measures. He wants to reflect the fact that there are different views in the community.
Brockett: I think it's important for us to take stands on things that impact our community. We reflect the view of the majority of community members.
Weaver with Brockett, but Young with Yates "for similar reasons," she says. "I felt we should have held to the supermajority proposal."
That is, it should have taken 6 members to express a position on a ballot measure, instead of 5.
Reminder: These are what they took positions on
Amendment B, Repeal Gallagher Amendment – Support
Amendment 76, Citizenship Qualification of Voters – Support
Proposition EE, Taxes on Nicotine Products – Support
Proposition 113, National Popular Vote – Support
Prop 114, Reintroduction of Gray Wolves – Support
Prop 115, Late-term abortion ban – Oppose
Prop 116, State Income Tax Rate Reduction - Oppose
Prop 117, Voter Approval for Certain New State Enterprises - Oppose
Prop 118, Paid Family Medical Leave – Support
Here's a thread from their discussion on that last week. threadreaderapp.com/thread/1316224…
We've got a lingering open comment speaker. Shelley Jones, who "pays a premium" for her Flatiron views at Two Nine North Apartments by Macy's. Doesn't want the "eyesore" of a "large structure" at the Macy's.
"It's going to completely cut the view of our beautiful Front Range."

Last item: Check-in on the East Boulder Subcommunity Plan. And a truly lovely staff presentation: www-static.bouldercolorado.gov/docs/Item_6A_-…
Subcommunity plans are kinda hard to tweet, since it's all conceptual. But I'll do my best.
This is my 'hood, full disclosure. But I obviously didn't participate in any of this stuff. Journalists never get to do things like that.

Tea time!
That is, landmarking the Boulder Teahouse. Two interesting tidbits here: It would be the youngest individual landmark in city history and maybe will become the first time Boulder landmarks the interior of a building.

We've got another lingering open comment speaker. Weaver reading his comment, since he's not here.
It's another resident of Two Nine North, saying they weren't informed about the Planning Board hearing.
A bit atypical for council to read open comment from people who miss their chance to speak.

Here's your open comment list. Please keep it clean tonight, Boulder. My anxiety is just too high for me to handle any shenanigans. But, you know, you do you. www-static.bouldercolorado.gov/docs/October_2…
Would rather have f-bombs than dry, pre-written comment tho, tbh.
Couple pro-muni speakers tonight.
