Self-isolation payment: When you can and can't claim £500 (THREAD)

You must be employed or self-employed and unable to work from home - losing income as a result.

If you're on benefits - You can only claim the payment if you are receiving Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, income-based Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit and/or Pension Credit.

You must also have been told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace, either if you have tested positive for coronavirus or you are a close contact of a positive case.

People who are told by the NHS Covid-19 app to isolate should follow the instructions.

Yet because it's not a legally binding duty to isolate if the app tells you to, you can't get the £500 payment for doing it.

To apply - you will need to phone or apply online to your local council and submit supporting evidence.

Councils will deliver the payments and administer the system, according to the government.
