I met Andrew Wilkinson once in 2013 on the hustings in Van-Quilchena - as his opponent's campaign manager, each candidate's team had a mandatory meeting with the DRO. [thread] #BCpoli
I arrived a few minutes before he and his team did.
As I rose from the table to greet them and shake their hands, I gently coughed once (pre-COVID!) into my shoulder.
Wilkinson's campaign manager shook my hand by reflex. Andrew himself refused to do the same.
Now, I'm told Andy's a doctor, so I'd hope he'd understand I didn't want to make out with him.
After all, it was like 72 hours out from the election and it's not like this race was going to be close in Van-Q.
He avoided eye contact as he selected the chair furthest from me.
His recent comments about "dealing with" indigenous patients brought me back to that moment; that he sees illness as some kind of a moral failure instead of a common experience that binds literally every human being on this planet together.
Andrew Wilkinson is the kind of hardcore conservative who has sucked his own dick so hard that he thinks he's enlightened 'cause way back in the '70s he said in a university debate that gays and lesbians deserved, y'know, like, maybe, the right to exist.
This is why the comments about Bowinn Ma were so egregiously shocking to me: Jane Thornthwaite has consistently demonstrated questionable judgement her entire career, so when the words came out of her mouth, I was surprisingly unsurprised.
But Andrew Wilkinson smirked.
He smirked because he hates women.
That's why he had plans to shank Christy Clark in the back in 2013 with his "8:01 Committee." Because in his mind she was just a dumb tart.
Of course, that "tart" won the election; Golden Boy Andy would sit on the back bench as punishment.
Misogyny is like anti-semetism: when you see such a clear, unambiguous example of it, you cannot help but think what other dark thoughts lie beneath the surface.
I bet Andy's the kind of doctor that would have once considered forced sterilizations a humane practice.
But perhaps the worst part of Andrew Wilkinson is his sense of entitlement.
This is why he forces Jane Thornthwaite to apologize instead of doing it himself.
This is why he thinks Vancouver voters are just "making a big deal" about his Interior candidates' homophobic opinions.
Conservatives love to talk about living in a consequence-free society and how awful it is.
So if there are truly any good people left with the @bcliberals they'll do what the Tory Party refused to do with Scheer and take Dime Eyes Andy out for his own long walk in the snow.
@bcliberals And finally, having been raised on the North Shore (which is legendary in Vancouver for its parochialism), I gotta say it takes a special kind of conservative asshole to lose to tree-hugging hippies in *WEST VANCOUVER* and socialist monsters in Deep Cove. [end]
