Town manager of Hull makes "land grab" against Graves Light. Files in court to force us to stop our work or face a $25,000-a-day fine. We're not even located in the town. facebook.com/GravesLight/po…@BostonGlobe
HULL TOWN MANAGER'S LAND GRAB: "When we bought the place" in 2013, Graves Light owner Dave Waller tells the Hull Times, the official documents "said it was unincorporated territory in Suffolk County."
Hull is in Plymouth County. Hull never claimed Graves before. @BostonGlobe
Tax assessor said the Graves property tax bill was an error.
“Hull kind of came along about six years afterward,
and the town manager just claimed it,” Dave Waller tells Hull Times.
“But then they called back and said they spoke to
the town manager and that it was correct.”
Hull Town Manager faked the town's tax database to put #GravesLight on the assessor list an hour after lighthouse keeper Dave Waller called the tax assessor to ask about the "erroneous" bill. #lighthouse
#GravesLight was not on Hull's tax map when Hull Times went to press (the article isn't online yet). It is listed on the town's property database, which contains no official description of the property. Hull lists no assessment before 2020. hull.patriotproperties.com/Summary.asp?Ac…@BostonGlobe
"You can't just look out the window and decide to add something to the map," #GravesLight owner Dave Waller tells the Hull Times about the "land grab." @bostonglobedesk
Hull's Town Manager got town lawyer James P. Lampke to file a court action to force #GravesLight to stop work on our property and recognize the "land grab," or PAY $25,000 A DAY, even though we are not located in the town. @BostonGlobe#lighthouse
The Town Manager of Hull is raising phony "safety" issues to annex #GravesLight, even though Hull has no jurisdiction. We got approvals from the state, the National Park Service, and even the Army Corps of Engineers to do our work safely and up to code. @GlobeMetro
The Hull Town Manager's "land grab" against #GravesLight has "probably cost a hundred years' worth of taxes" that the town seeks to assess on the property that isn't even part of the town, Dave Waller tells the Hull Times. @GlobeMetro
Hull has tried to drag Boston, Winthrop, Nahant, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts into its "land grab" against #GravesLight, but they aren't going along with the Hull Town Manager's game. @GlobeMetro@BostonGlobe
The lawyer for the Town of Hull says he can't find documents proving that #GravesLight is "within the jurisdiction of Hull" because of COVID-19, even though legal action began in 2019, well before the pandemic.
