(1/x) Good news about local elections in Ukraine: 1) Elections were free and democratic; 2) Democr. pro-European parties "Eur.Solidarity", "Holos" and "Syla Lyudei" are strong in many regions; 3) Syla Lyudei is a great example of a grassroot democratic party, free from oligarchs
(2/x) 4) Several important cities have secured strong pro-European pro-reform governance: first of all Lviv and Vinnytsya; 5) In Kyiv, Klychko will be re-elected. He is (as for me) a bad mayor (infrastructure, urbanist policy), but he is clearly not a pro-Russian guy or a radical
(3/x) 6) New "project parties" founded by oligarchs have suffered a total defeat. "Za Maibutne" by Kolomoisky has failed everywhere. This is a great sign; 7) The slogan "I am from the president's party, I have support of the president, therefore vote for me" does not work at all;
(4/x) 8) Overall, these elections will clearly help successful communities a chance to develop its economy and be even more successful and attractive. The competition will be more and more sophisticated. Internal migration to more successful, free and liberal regions will grow.
(5/5) 9) People will see the difference between oligarchs-run, patrons-oriented communities and regions and more developed and free communities/regions. I hope very much, this will be a great factor of social development in Ukraine.

THREAD 1/x It is a very dangerous situation in Ukraine. 12 days before local elections President Zelensky publishes his video statement and says he pursues "a real democracy", so he will "ask people 5 simple questions" amid local elections. The questions will be announced later.
2/x Zelensky calls this initiative "a poll", not "a referendum" - obviously because there is no law on referendum in Ukraine in edition which Zelensky would be happy to see. This draft law did not pass the parliament. "A poll" also can to be organized just a few days in advance.
3/x Announcing "a poll" also allows Zelensky to interpret answers in any way he needs. "A poll" does not underly the laws and does not need to be controlled by the Election Commission.
THREAD 1/x Zelensky's party "Servant of the People" will "for sure unite" with the Medvedchuk's pro-Russian party OPZZh "after the local elections", says Zelensky's top politician, a parliament deputy Kachura, who is a deputy head of UA mission to PACE. He sees no problem in this
2/x Kachura says, a union with Putin's relative and an ex-KGB lawyer Medvedchuk is "inevitable", and is already under consideration of the party's leadership. For him, it would be ok. At the same time, he says he would leave Zelensky's party, if it would unite with Poroshenko (!)
3/x A de-facto coalition of Zelensky's party and Medvedchuk's one already exists in the national parliament. It was Medvedchuk's party which voted for the most important Zelensky's law proposals in order to guarantee expansion of Zelensky's power (like the general attorney case).
Ukrainians in Russian empire and in the Soviet Union were blacks in the racist America. They were claimed to be "dirty", "stupid", their language was mocked, their national cloth and accent was used as a "funny" thing in comedies (aka "blackface"). Their carrier had clear limits.
In the Soviet army, Ukrainian recruits were forbidden to talk Ukrainian to each other - even on the territory of Ukraine. A military carrier was mostly limited up to warrant-officer. Ukr. were "praised" to be "good household holder", that is why so many Ukr. served at warehouses.
If you want to imagine a portrait of a "good" Ukrainian in Soviet propaganda, think of Mammy from the "Gone with the wind" - a loyal servant, very ground-stable and knowing his/her place. A "bad Ukrainian" instead was pictured as rebellious, dreaming of independency (unheard!)
I have another steps to end a "conflict in and around Ukraine": 1) Russia takes its troops and mercenaries from Donbas; 2) Russia gives Crimea back to Ukraine; 3) Russia takes its citizens it has illegally resettled to Crimea since 2014;
(continued)
4) Russia pays Ukraine compensation for all damages done to Ukrainian infrastructure; 5) Russia pays Ukraine compensation for de-mining activities; 6) Russia pays compensation to Ukrainian victims of Russian aggression or to their heirs;
(continued)
7) Russia delivers to international court its political and military personnel responsible for its war against Ukraine; 8) Russia clearly cancels all sabotage programs of destabilizing Ukraine; 9) Russia returns to Ukraine all factories it has moved to Russia in 2014
