Now don't get me wrong, I have had as much fun as most tweeting about this. But as soy(a) sauce is now trending, here are some other bits of news that somehow failed to have such an impact on the average person in the UK 1/
Just in the weekend we learned that Johnson has allied the Tories with actual Neo Nazis and anti Muslims in the Council of Europe, and kicked out a Tory peer who dared to complain out of some European Group instead. Johnson downplayed this unholy alliance by claiming 2/
it was far away, he couldn't be expected to be on top of everything, and people wouldn't understand anyway".
Anyway, let's forget the Neo Nazis, and go back to Brexit:
Also in the news were Heinz and Philadelphia. 3/
They have sounded the alarm it is not just fresh produce that will be in short supply after 1/1/21, but they will struggle to get a lot of other stuff over the border as well.
Why? As @pmdfoster explained, there are simply not enough customs agents. 4/
The government admitted 50,000 extra customs agents would be needed by 1/1/21 to help fill in the 100s of millions extra customs forms that will need to be filled in even if there is a deal. It appears so far 600 have been found. Oh, and training them takes 18 months. 5/
You think that isn't bad enough? Just wait until you find out the actual IT systems that are vital to keep the border chaos at bay, will not be ready by 1/1/21, as @Joe_Mayes from Bloomberg had the scoop for 6/
And yesterday there was good old David Davis, gloating that the EU will lose EUR33bn in exports to the UK in case of no deal (8.2bn Germany, followed by Holland, France and the rest), with estimated job losses of over 420,000, and ONLY 12,000 UK jobs expected to go. 7/
But, like I said, that was job losses from EU to UK exports. What David Davis didn't mention was that the UK is expected to lose 15% of its exports to the EU in case of no deal. That would amount to about £45bn. Compare that to the EUR8.2bn hit to Germany! 8/
See David Davis tweets below.
All this, and it barely causes a stir on twitter, or indeed the UK media, yet soy(a) sauce.......
So Brits on twitter, I am sorry, but you seem to deserve what is coming for you after 1/1/21. A costly lesson.
