A deep dive into Cabo Delgado extremism this is not as portrayed in the headline, but more a discussion on contextual realities businesslive.co.za/fm/features/af…
Always amazed how western perspectives view Africa conflict from an ethnic lens. Ethnicity cannot be ignored as a contextual reality in Cabo Delgado but it is not the only aspect that defines identity and engagement.
Note that since the latter part of 2019 insurgents have not pushed west in the direction of Makonde areas, but south, with for example Quissanga.
Quissanga is viewed as a Makau district, and with that ethnicity as contextual reality by itself fails to explain what shapes the insurgency.

Last 24 hours insurgents active in both Tanzania and Mozambique
Three villages in Tanzania's Mtwara province attacked - arson against government facilities: villages of Nanyamba, Lilombe and Tandahimba in the Michanjale district
Unverified - but police barracks also raided
Mozambique: Four villages Nchinga, Miteda, Namacande as well as Pundanhar - Locals spotted insurgents in Muambula and Muatide, in Muidumbe district.
I take no credit for map as this was kindly shared with me.
With rain season already started, we are more than likely to see more attacks north of Rovuma River, insurgents being pushed closer to Palma in search of supplies.
Attacks in Muidumbi is disconcertingly getting closer to Mueada.
Attacks also more than likely push further south.
