Dear Muslims, through all the difficulties of this life and adversities in this world, there is something that continues to remain clear. It is the fact that the pristine and brilliant teachings we have in Islaam aim to uplift people's conduct and purify their souls.
My dear brothers who have eemaan (i.e. those who hold sound beliefs and perform righteous deeds), more than fourteen centuries have elapsed since that final Messenger was sent by Allaah, yet his graceful qualities still have a pleasant presence in all regions.
Allaah blessed his Prophet Muhammad by favouring him and endowing him with many unique traits and virtues, to the point that no written or spoken words can fully encompass those traits despite them being continually mentioned in various settings including the minbar.
When people hear about the Messenger's honourable qualities, their hearts are enlivened just as the ground is after the rainfall.
His conduct was dignified, his virtues were of a high standard, and all his words were gems that were comprehensive yet concise.
All goodness, guidance, and moderation can be found in what was narrated about him. He was sound in his physical form as well as his conduct.
As for his physical form: His complexion was light and radiant. His face was bright.
His appearance was pleasant. His two eyes were quite dark. His eyelashes were somewhat long. His voice had a bit of raspiness. His neck was a bit long. His hair was very black.
When silent, his appearance was awe-inspiring. When he spoke, he was enveloped by gracefulness. He was the most elegant of people when at a distance, and the finest and clearest when up close.
His words were sweet to listen to; and they were balanced such that they were neither so few that they could not be understood, nor so many that they were useless or induced boredom.
It was as though his speech was a series of gems coming in sequence, one after another. He was of moderate height such that no eye would belittle him due to being short, or dislike him due to being tall.
He had a thick beard, wide shoulders, wide palms, and wide feet. He was neither exceedingly tall, nor so short that parts of his body were compacted together. His hair was neither very straight nor very curly. When he spoke, he appeared as though light emanated from his teeth.
Al-Bukhaaree (may Allaah have mercy upon him) collected [3552] that al-Baraa' ibn 'Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him) was asked if the face of Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) was like a sword, and he replied, "No. It was like the moon."
Al-Baraa' (may Allaah be pleased with him) had further said that Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) was of moderate height, had wide shoulders, and had hair that reached his earlobes. This was also collected by al-Bukhaaree [3551].
'Ali ibn Abi Taalib described the Prophet (may Allah grant him commendation and protection) by saying, "He was not very tall or very short, he had wide palms and feet, his head was large, his joints were large, and he had a long thin line of hair from his chest to his midsection.
When he walked, he did so [with firm unhurried steps] as if descending on a slope. Neither before nor after him did I see anyone else like him." [Jaami' at-Tirmithee 3637, saheeh].
Hassaan ibn Thaabit said about the Prophet lines of poetry conveying the meaning, "My eyes never saw anyone better than you, and women have not given birth to anyone better looking than you. You were created without blemish, as though you were made just the way you wanted to be."
My dear brothers in Islaam, as for the way that the Prophet spoke (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection), he was often quiet and he did not speak without a reason.
He would begin and end his speech with the name of Allaah, and his words were concise yet clear and comprehensive in meaning.
'Aa'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) - one of the mothers of the people of eemaan - had said, "Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) did not speak continuously the way that you do.
Rather, he would make his words clear and leave intervals between his statements, such that whoever sat with him memorized them." This was collected by at-Tirmithee [3639, hasan] and he graded it hasanun saheeh.
The Prophet (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) also smiled often at his Companions and those who were with him.
'Abdullaah ibn al-Haarith (may Allaah be pleased with him) said, "I did not see anyone smile more than Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection)." [Jaami' at-Tirmithee 3641, saheeh].
He had also said, "The laughter of Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) was usually only a smile." [Jaami' at-Tirmithee 3642, saheeh].
Jareer ibn 'Abdillaah had said, "Since the time I accepted Islaam, Alaah's Messenger (may Alaah grant him commendation and protection) did not prevent me from entering his home when I asked permission, and any time he saw me, he smiled." This was collected by al-Bukhaaree [3035].
Aboo Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that some of the Companions had said, "Messenger of Allaah, there are indeed times when you joke with us", and he replied, "But I certainly say nothing besides what it true." [Jaami' at-Tirmithee 1990, saheeh].
The Prophet (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) was also the humblest of people.
[It was narrated that] Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) also described his humility by saying, "Allaah's Messenger (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection) would visit the ill, attend funerals, ride a donkey, and accept the invitation of a slave.
Servants of Allaah, you must continue to observe taqwaa of Allaah. In addition, you must emulate the example of your Prophet Muhammad
Furthermore, we say in the name of 1.8 billion Muslims that we condemn in the strongest and sternest of terms any sort of disparagement directed towards Allaah's Prophets and Messengers.
That is especially so in the case of Allaah's Prophet of guidance and mercy: our leader and Prophet, Muhammad (may Allaah grant him commendation and protection).
Abusive drawings and inflammatory actions are nothing besides a form of terrorism, as well as extremism which feeds hatred and bigotry.
It is not freedom of expression to aim ridicule and mockery at people's religious leaders, or things that people hold sacred.
On the contrary, such behaviour violates ethics and decency, and is unacceptable.
This is because it is a must for freedom of expression to give due consideration to human values which are based upon respecting the feelings of others. When expression goes beyond those values, it becomes an affront to ethics and freedoms.
Such abuses give support to individuals with extremist ideas who seek to spread an atmosphere of hatred among societies with decent human values.
Moreover, Islaam is innocent of all those negative things, and it is also innocent of being labelled with any type of terrorism. Islaam is a religion of tolerance, mercy, and harmony.
Its teachings do not contain terrorism, extremism, destruction, mockery, insults, or rejection of any Messengers sent by Allaah, the Most Exalted.
We also extend a further call for people to control their feelings, resist provocation, refrain from being rash, and avoid imprudent actions and unrestrained reactions.
Insults aimed at Allaah's Prophets and Messengers do not cause them any harm since Allaah grants them sufficient protection against those who may mock them.
Allaah speaking well of His Prophets is far greater than anyone else acclaiming them, and a pertinent instance of this can be found at the beginning of Soorah al-Qalam in the Qur'aan.
The people of Islaam should rest assured that circumstances like the current ones eventually pass, and the only ones who will end up harmed by them are their advocates.
If people do not support Allaah's Messenger, Allaah Himself has already given him support. Allaah grants His Messenger sufficient protection against those who may ridicule him.
Allaah will always bring about what He has decreed, but most people do not realize this.
