Things I've learnt from trolling finance professionals, politicians and other individuals on twitter. A thread:
1. A lot of people in finance are very insecure and their egos bruise very easily. Many finance professionals are also incapable of second order thinking. These are some of the people we entrust our money to.
2. Many political supporters on both sides exhibit extreme cult like behavior. They vociferously attack and demean people on the other side of the political spectrum for being "stupid" and "thick".
3. Many people are incapable of understanding irony even when it stares at them in the face. This is very worrying from an emotional decision making/critical thinking perspective.
4. There is a reasonably large minority of people who always try to find a positive explanation for things. E.g for my "I voted 3 times" troll many suggested that I was referring to voting in previous presidential elections.
5. When people are angry and make emotional decisions they often let their mask slip, revealing subconscious prejudices. After leaving an elitist comment on an AOC post many of her defenders took to racist comments about my Indian heritage.
6. I feel bad saying it, but there are a substantial number of unintelligent people who unironically agree with my troll comments and seek to defend clearly ironic bigoted and classist statements.

Things kids should be taught in schools, but aren't.
Number 1: Financial literacy. Teach kids how to save and budget using excel. Teach the basics of investing... What a share and an index fund are. Emphasise the importance of disciplined saving for retirement early on.
Number 2: How to read. Astonished schools don't teach this but it's incredibly important. How to choose and read books effectively to maximise utility gained. Show how to effectively annotate sentences and teach methods of maximising retention.
Number 3: Basic formal logic. What a valid and invalid argument looks like. What a deductive and inductive argument looks like. What various logical fallacies look like. How to cut through and break down arguments to evaluate them properly.
