Religious freedom inside of Toxic Christianity has always meant religious freedom for them, and religious oppression for everyone else. It’s meant freedom to discriminate based on Christian beliefs, and the demand that others aren’t allowed to discriminate against them.
(1)
Religious freedom inside of toxic Christianity has always meant screaming persecution when they are asked to be inclusive and understanding of other beliefs, and persecuting those who don’t agree with their religious beliefs.
(2)
All of that to say, Happy Samhain!!! Samhain is a Gaelic festival celebrated at the end of the harvest season. It means “end of summer” and it marked the beginning of the darker half of the year. It had religious connotations too;
(3)
it was the time of the year when the spiritual world became visible to humans, the veil between the spirit world and ours was the thinnest, the gods played tricks on mortals, and the spirits of the dead mingled with the living as the barrier between both worlds was breached.
(4)
After the Romans conquered Celtic lands they appropriated Samhain and demanded people assimilated to the New tradition. They turned Samhain into All Hallows’ Eve. The night before All Hallows’ Day, a day to honor and celebrate saints and martyrs.
(5)
Christians back then had a different strategy in their quest to wipe out all other religions, instead of getting rid of their traditions altogether, they would use them for Christian purposes. They also believed in saints and their involvement in miraculous events,
(6)
so they co-opted Samhain as a time where the spirits of the dead were closest to humans, and celebrated Christian saints and their miracles.
Samhain is a beautiful tradition that goes back at least 2000 years and much of it has been lost due to Christianity.
(7)
Part of decolonizing includes recognizing other traditions, and celebrating their beauty as we learn to approach the “other” with honor and curiosity and not with suspicion and the belief they aren’t good. So again, Happy Samhain!

The privileged will always have access to safe abortions.
They will always have access to healthcare.
Always be able to immigrate.
Always be allowed to break the law. Rarely held accountable.
Allowed their gender identity and sexual orientation.
(1)
They will always have food, shelter, water, quality of life, access to mental health care... their human rights are really not infringed upon. Even when they are held accountable the conditions are humane.
And I’m so glad they have all of that.
(2)
I am so glad their rights are upheld and respected. What I don’t appreciate is that they actively deny that to others. That they think maintaining their privilege at the expense of everyone else is more important that equality and equity.
(3)
I don’t care who you vote for, so long as you are voting consciously and for good reasons. At this point, after how clearly Donald Trump has shown he’s racist, an abuser, cheater, liar, bigot... I don’t understand why anyone would give him their vote though. Let me elaborate:
(1)
If you are voting for him because of abortion, please read about abortion rates and how they have steadily been dropping since 1973, and it has nothing to do w/any policies Trump supports. Trump instituted a regulation letting...
(2)
employers, schools and other organizations to opt out of birth control coverage, which not only affects women’s health, but also abortion rates.
If you are voting for him because of the economy, his tax cuts are not really beneficial for most of us.
(3)
Officially speaking, Jesus wasn’t killed because of anything that had to do with theology; he was killed because of the appearance of sedition and treason, he was killed because of intended insurrection against the state.
(1)
This is why the sign above his head read “The King of the Jews” this was mockery and an attempt to send a message to all Jewish people: there could only be one King, and the Jewish people didn’t have it, the Romans did.
(2)
He was killed because the religious leaders didn’t like their own power opposed so they rejected the claims of him as the messiah, and used that to speak of blasphemy. Jewish religious leaders could have stoned him, they tried several times, but it didn’t work.
(3)
There is no such thing as bad words. Words are just an element of speech, a tool of communication. There are simply bad ways to use words, like it is the case for any tool.
(1)
We’ve been so conditioned to think using certain words is inappropriate that sometimes we focus more on the words people are using instead of listening to what people are actually saying.
(2)
There are many ways in which we can use words to cause harm, but considering that goes beyond simply banning certain words from our vocabulary, and instead requires that we think through the intent behind what we are saying.

I see a lot of parenting advice inside of Christian circles that is “biblical” parenting. And because ppl are indoctrinated to believe biblical=good, abuse is excused under the umbrella of biblical.
Here are a few examples of biblical parenting that are really just abuse:
(1)
Fear is desirable - teaching that God demands “his children” (all of us) to fear him, is translated as Children should be afraid of their parents. It is not normal to be afraid of your parents, people who are afraid of their parents are being abused.
(2)
Punishment, including physical violence, is framed as love - “spare the rod, spoil the child” is not only not in the Bible, it’s also not true. You can’t spoil children, only traumatize them. Correction, boundaries, and accountability are not the same as punishment.
(3)
I don’t like telling people to vote anymore, the blanket statement seems nonsensical to me considering most of the people that’ll read that are going to vote for a party down the ballot without ever reading what any candidate is for.
(1)
They’ll vote how that party tells them to vote for measures without reading how that measure actually affects people.
In 2018 in the US a dead man won Nevada’s election, in CA a man indicted of dozens of criminal charges including campaign finance crimes won the election,
(2)
and stories like that happen every time. Because people have been told to vote for a certain party, but not to participate critically and honestly in “democracy.”
I honestly believe this is most common amongst Christians.
