As y'all know I've been working nonstop for the past week to crank out extra episodes of Movement Memos that might help folks ready themselves for what's coming. It started with folks wanting a follow up to this episode, which we didn't have time for. truthout.org/audio/searchin…
So I made a bonus episode where I walked folks through how to write a personal safety plan. I am so heartened by how useful people have found it. truthout.org/audio/planning…
In this episode @sarahkendzior and I broke down the authoritarian mechanics of what's happening. truthout.org/audio/arm-wres…
In this episode, I talked about the world-building poetics of organizing and keeping despair at bay. truthout.org/audio/reclaimi…
Here I talked with @shane_burley1 about direct action, fascism and what we should expect in the streets this week. This episode also includes a care package full of pre-taped trainings/workshops and resources in the show notes to help you prepare. truthout.org/audio/mass-pro…
On Election Day, you'll be hearing from me and @tanuja_devi about how we can process the stress, anxiety and suspense of this week.
All of this has been created one week, & if that seems like a ridiculous amount of work, you should know this wasn't Truthout's idea. I wanted to respond to y'alls questions & to help you prepare. People have been telling me these episodes are helpful, so it has def been worth it
Today, I will finish cutting together the Election Day episode. I am also juggling a lot organizing tasks for this week. Including planning for this remote rally Nov. 2 @ 6pm CT. You are welcome to join us as we rally around our commitment to #RemoveTrump. facebook.com/events/3701306…
We're asking folks to take selfies of themselves holding this sign (or a handmade version). One of our speakers cannot be present for COVID-related reasons. We will play a slideshow of the selfies in solidarity while audio of his remarks are played. Image: bit.ly/3oAg7Vo
Photos of your pets with the #RemoveTrump sign are also encouraged. You can post photos to the event page (or send them to me via DM): facebook.com/events/3701306…
I also encourage folks who plan to be in the streets this week to watch this de-escalation training. It's one I highly recommend. We all need to be ready to confront the unexpected and spread calm in the days ahead. afsc.org/action/prepare…
If you couldn't make it to any of the direct action trainings that have been held in the run-up to the election, you can check out this prerecorded training w activist Lisa Fithian. The training was filmed earlier this summer and hosted by NorCal Resist. facebook.com/watch/?v=61891…
I want to thank everyone who's reached out to tell me that they have found this week's episodes helpful, or that they have used them for various teaching or organizing purposes. That heartens me more than I can say. We will get through this together, fam. open.spotify.com/show/7n5TgM4I6…

It's been an absolute marathon making extra episodes in the run-up to the election. Fortunately @anarchocatfan joined @truthout as a volunteer a while back, and has been rocking the show's sound quality. Shout out to my partner in crime who helps make all my work possible. Image
ICYMI we started making extra episodes of Movement Memos this week because a bunch of people were asking for a follow up to this piece, and with only two episodes left before the election, we just wouldn't have had time. truthout.org/audio/searchin…
So I created this episode where I kind of walked people through a writing exercise to help them write a personal safety plan. If that sounds intimidating, remember, there's a transcript to refer to. It's just a matter of ordering your thoughts. truthout.org/audio/planning…

"Peaceful" is how some people describe other people getting brutalized by the cops. So long as you don't fight back, it was a "peaceful" protest. Your cause can only be admirable if you are willing to absorb violence indefinitely and never see your demands realized. Real cute.
That's what a lot of liberals expect of people living in struggle: that they take inspiring symbolic action, absorb any and all violence respectably, without retaliation, and then accept that the injustice will continue. There's a reason people tend to resent that.
Some will say they don't expect people to accept it, but when you expect people to stay within the lines, even if doing so does not work, you are expecting them to accept the situation, and keep the status quo intact. At best you are saying they can *express* their dismay.

The "just talk about the tasks in front of you" stuff, while probably really good advice for some people, does not feel great to people who have been sounding the alarm for years. The idea that we should pipe down now, when everything is coming to a head, does not sit well.
I get that the mechanics & possible trajectories of what's happening could, for some, serve as an upsetting distraction from the tasks at hand, but people who have relentlessly told the truth about what we are up against have never been the problem and will never be the problem.
Also, what sounds like catastrophizing to some people is, to others, just a frank discussion of the things that could imminently happen to them. We get to talk about that shit.

People need to remember that Trump's children and their spouses aren't simply relatives. That family is a crime syndicate. Look at how much money his kids & their spouses have made during his presidency.
I am also sorry to remind folks that if Trump is arm twisted into conceding, he will make a deal, in exchange for a transition of power, that insulates his family -- not bc he cares about his children but bc they are key players in his financial schemes.
I also think his problems with his creditors could potentially be mopped up in exchange for a transition of power. Not in an immediate, obvious, bribe-like way, but through fully locked down assurances that certain financial events will unfold that would make it all okay.

People who hate follow folks are some of the most boring, sad ass people on here. Imagine doing your best impression of a fruit gnat and thinking you're clever.
Some dude recently was like "you're a dingbat" LOL. And this was a real person. A real person who took the time to follow me and pick a tweet to respond to it with that devastating zinger.
So bored. So sad.
