Altona has a very interesting history.
First Altona Beach station 1888 1 km east of present Altona station. VR built new Altona Beach station (renamed Altona 1938) on the present station site in 1917.
Line used for brown coal for a while. Sparked 1926.

This loco was the second loco built by VR. Had a close friend no. 105. 103 was scrapped 1921, 105 in 1924.

The tramway operated from ~ 1901 - 1962
Williamstown Racecourse station was opened in 1885 as the terminus of a 1.1 km branch from the main Geelong line, serving the adjacent racecourse. In 1888, the line was extended to Altona Beach.

Williamstown Racecourse was taken over by the Army in 1940 and it never opened again. Fire in 1947 damaged the stand and buildings at the racecourse.

Good Morning Traralgon!
Traralgon station opened in 1877 when the line from Morwell to Sale opened. Was the junction for the branch line to Maffra and Stratford (closed between 1987-1995). Important operational location in Gippsland for the railways.

Good Morning Frankston!
Open 1882. Connection to the Stony Point, Red Hill (now closed) and Mornington (now closed) lines. Electrification to Frankston 1922. Frankston had a coal stage and a 70' turntable to service locos for branch line steam workings.

Good Morning Cranbourne!
Cranbourne open Oct 1888, station on the South Gippsland line. Now the terminus of that line. Passenger trains ceased 1981, reinstated in 1984 until 1993. Dandenong to Cranbourne was sparked in 1995 and services returned.

Good Morning Alamein!
Alamein station opened in 1948. Originally on the outer circle line (no station) the section of the former outer circle railway from Riversdale to Ashburton was extended to Alamein in 1948.

The station served a new Housing Commission estate that had been constructed for people who were displaced after World War II. Named after the WW II battlefield in North Africa.
