Like a lot of you, I feel some dread when I think about potential violence unfolding tomorrow & this week. That’s why I think it’s high time for @Invisionps to stop providing a platform to one of the biggest vectors of violent rhetoric online - mymilitia dot com. 1/
As the name suggests, it’s a gathering space for members of illegal paramilitaries to find one another and gin one another up towards civil war -- with the help of tech company @invisionps, which provides the technical mechanisms to do so. 2/
As @misstessowen chronicled for VICE, mymilitia is a clearinghouse and meeting space for members of militias -- and also offers info useful for those who seek violence, like manuals with info on bomb making, chemical weapons, gun assembly. vice.com/en/article/y3g… 3/
At least some of the folks on MyMilitia have engaged in violence in real life, like the Illinois-based user who drove 100s of miles with his "White Rabbit" militia to bomb an Indiana mosque. This crowd is slavering for violence. 4/ vice.com/en/article/y3g…
MyMilitia, thanks to services provided by tech company @invisionps, is able to connect members of 530 militia groups around the country and encourage people to form their own based on area codes. 4/
Here’s a recent thread on MyMilitia -- created by the site’s owner, Josh Ellis, who has claimed strenuously it’s not a violent site. Responses included “take out these communists” and “i will take out as many as i can.”
Here are some more -- urging mymilitia members to be ready to “burn down your local black owned stores,” “take out those communists,” “remove the cancer in the USA”, etc. This is just a tiny sample from this week-- facilitated by tech platform @invisionps. 6/
Mymilitia also solicits donations via @AskPayPal, where you can donate to “American Revolution 2.0.” Which isn’t, you know, ideal. Fuck all this, is my thought. And fuck tech companies that willingly facilitate violence on their platforms.

Worried about violence during & after the election? One tech company that’s facilitating violent right-wing organizing: the walkie-talkie app @Zello, which enables armed, far-right militias to organize on their platform. Here’s a thread with action items for you to take. 1/
As @ozm reported, it’s easy to join the platform & find militia folks preparing for civil war. Here’s a screenshot of the far right militia groups I joined in 1 day this week, all of which proudly operate on @Zello. 2/ onezero.medium.com/banished-from-…
If you want to help, tag @Zello and pressure them to oust militia groups. A spokesperson says @Zello is working to “update their TOS,” but working to save the election means there’s no more time and we need to ramp up the pressure. 3/
Not to answer a sarcist tweet genuinely, but: Becuase they cloak themselves in the plausible deniability of their own absurdity, and it is self-conscious absurdity; they do it to make people pointing out how genuine the threat is seem ridiculous, and to amuse themselves
