"Waiting for the results of the US presidential election is like waiting to find out if you're going to get hit by the mugger with the bat or the mugger with the crow bar." caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/the-us-empir…
Dave Calhoun, CEO of top war profiteer company Boeing, said back in July that he'll be quite happy regardless of what happens on November third.
And of course he didn't take such a position. Why would he? Arms manufacturers have been pouring money into the campaigns of both candidates, and they both know that no matter who wins the presidential election they're going to reap highly profitable mountains of corpses.
Since they know they win no matter who wins, why risk offending a future business partner?
The fact that war plutocrats are happy with either candidate tells you more about the reality of this presidential race than all the billions of dollars worth of mass media reporting and punditry that's gone into it over the last two years combined.
It's so insane that people can become unimaginably wealthy by using campaign donations to help warmongering politicians rise to the top of the political system of the most bloodthirsty government on earth and then selling the weapons used in the wars those politicians start.
Really, just think about that for a second. Imagine if someone said "I'm going to become a billionaire by killing people in the Middle East and Africa and selling their organs on the black market."
War profiteers pour money into political campaigns, think tanks, mass media advertising and other narrative management operations which have the direct result of more mass military violence and more public support for it, but they are seldom even criticized for that depravity.
The more you think about it, the creepier it gets. This is true not just of the military-industrial complex, but of the US empire as a whole.
There is nothing more creepy than the close power alliance loosely centralized around the US which functions as a single empire.
They extol the virtues of "human rights" while butchering human beings around the world whenever it is geostrategically convenient.
The reality that they are riding on the parade float dressing of an insatiable death machine is carefully concealed from the denizens of this empire, and instead they are fed a constant Hollywood diet of movies and shows about how fun and hilarious and awesome their country is.
The US empire is a serial killer with a horrifying grin stretched over its blood-spattered face. A smiley faced psychopath babbling about civil rights and the importance of inclusive language while chopping a Yemeni child to pieces.
Once you've seen the murderous US empire for what it is, you can never see the smiling nice guy again.
Despite all the partisan shrieking and melodrama and hyperbole, Trump is not uniquely evil.
Despite all the partisan shrieking and melodrama and hyperbole, Biden is not uniquely evil.
Only depraved people are capable of serving such a depraved machine, and only depraved people will ever be given an opportunity to. Trump and Biden are not unique in their depravity. They're just the next in line to serve at the front desk of the smiley faced murder factory.

FYI any violence arising from the US election or its aftermath will only benefit the powerful and be used to justify authoritarian agendas which serve the powerful.
There are plenty of arguments to be made for situations in which intelligent application of force by the citizenry could have good results. Killing each other over which oligarch crony will be the president is not one of those situations about which such arguments can be made.
One who moves from cradle to grave
in the flip book illusion we call time
without deeply attending to this cavalcade of miracles
is one who never lived.
Lifeless are they who live by habit,
who walk by habit,
who sit by habit,
who see by habit,
who think by habit,
who feel by habit.
Lifeless are they who drift through on dead patterns
instead of giving the omnipresent Holiness its due reverence.
The alive ones meet each moment
like a dog greets its master at the door after work.
They do not think: they wonder.
They do not watch: they marvel.
They do not walk: they adventure.
They do not sit: they engage.
They do not wait: they worship.
I can't believe there's still a debate about whether leftists should go on huge conservative platforms or just wait eternally for a call from the liberal platforms who hate them. Yes, getting leftist values into the mainstream by any means is better than being ignored. Duh.
Letting leftist ideas and values remain marginalized under the notion that you're "legitimizing" people who already have audiences of millions is the absolute dumbest thing you can do. Get the ideas out there if for no other reason than to force the bastards to push back on them.
The left will never have a meaningful movement as long as it's relegated to the unseen fringes, and there are people whose entire job is figuring out how to keep them there. Don't give them your marginalization for free; at least make them come out in the open and fight for it.
The best way to manufacture consent for world-threatening cold war escalations is to convince half the population that a leader they hate opposes those escalations for corrupt reasons. They did it very successfully with Russia, and if Biden gets in they'll do it again with China.
This gives one half of the political spectrum a literally insatiable appetite for more and more escalations, and gives the other half a vested interest in proving that their guy is "tough" on the nation in question. Russiagate was extremely successful, so why change the formula?
No sane person would consent to their nation's resources and wealth going toward a conflict that could wipe out every terrestrial organism instead of toward the citizenry, so propaganda is necessary. Russiagate was arguably the most successful psyop in history. It's the formula.
"We have the greatest respect for the journalist Glenn Greenwald used to be, and we remain proud of much of the work we did with him over the past six years. It is Glenn who has strayed from his original journalistic roots, not The Intercept."
Humanity's Madness Would Not Be Possible Without Extensive Marketing
"Without extensive marketing it would never have occurred to anyone that murdering human beings in other countries is a good career path for young people." caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/humanitys-ma…
Without extensive marketing it would never have occurred to people that inhaling cigarette smoke into their lungs all the time is a nice thing to do.
Without extensive marketing it would never have occurred to people that Mountain Dew is something they should put into their bodies.
