This is always my reticence with writing for a liberal publications... The number of times I have had responses run that are ad hominem attacks instead of on the merits of my arguments. It’s really inappropriate stuff.

The sad part is it’s happened so many times for so many outlets I’m not even surprised or upset anymore. “Hey Bethany! We’d like you to write this for us.” “Sure, happy to.” Google notification day later: (Same outlet has run a direct response calling you xyz.)

Perhaps it’s unprofessional of me to air my frustrations, but I guess we’re not concerned with professionalism anymore. The shamelessness involved in soliciting a piece to then run a personal, nasty attack on that person the next day is galling.

If I had come to an editor with a piece like this, a nasty personal attack on a liberal writer, I would have been told to get lost or completely rewrite the piece to take on only their ideas. And that is what should have been done here.

I take a lot of flack writing for liberal publications because I think people need to be challenged and to hear things that they don’t normally. But this is consistently the unprofessional bullshit I get in response.

And the funny part is I will be viewed as a troublemaker for daring to object to this treatment. I don’t need to write for liberal publications, I don’t need this crap. I’m not going to pretend like I deserve it. I’m not dying for an opportunity to write for these outlets.

If you wanna marketplace of ideas, please feel free to solicit my work. If you want to play games, play them with someone else.
