Still awhile until polls close here in Nevada (and potentially later pending the outcome of the latest Trump campaign/Nevada GOP lawsuit)... but until then, I wanted to highlight some of the fantastic work from our team ahead of the election.
First of all, thanks to @JackieValley, we have this excellent Election Day Primer that's your one-stop shop for everything you need to know as the election cycle comes to a close. thenevadaindependent.com/article/electi…
@JackieValley The tireless @RileySnyder has been following what feels like countless lawsuits in the run-up to the election. His most recent story today looked at a last-minute appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court that would halt mail ballot counting. thenevadaindependent.com/article/trump-…
@JackieValley@RileySnyder@danielrothberg@MichelleRindels@jacobsolisnv And that's on top of all their other work! Daniel, and his thoughtful, nuanced reporting on the environment; Michelle, and her tireless coverage of unemployment/criminal justice reform/etc. all the while serving as the mother of our interns...
The interns — along with the reporters — have also put together an astounding number of Election Previews, which you can check out here: thenevadaindependent.com/election/2020/…
I also want to highlight this excellent piece on Native voters by @jazmin1orozco that published this morning — which also looks at historical (and continued) failings of campaigns to reach out to Indian County. thenevadaindependent.com/article/tribal…
@jazmin1orozco We're also SO lucky to have the wonderful @LuzGrayNV on our team who on top of "Cafecito con Luz y Michelle" and writing her own stories makes sure that content from our English side gets translated for the Spanish page. What would we do without her?
Also a huge shout out to @Joey_Lovato_ ,who teamed up with @RileySnyder, to produce an excellent series of ballot question explainer videos — all of that on top of making sure we always sound "podcast smooth" on the IndyMatters podcast. thenevadaindependent.com/election/2020/…
@Joey_Lovato_@RileySnyder There are so many others who make @TheNVIndy what it is — CJ Keeney, our tech guru; @hsanchez128, our DC correspondent; @janasayson, who produces fantastic videos for us; and @StasyShipman, the magical doer of all things. None of what we do would be possible without them!
Last but not least, a huge thank you to our fearless leaders @RalstonReports and @elizthompsn. I'm pretty sure they both must have time turners with the amount they manage to accomplish each day! We're so lucky to have them steering this ship.
It seems crazy that four years ago @TheNVIndy was just an idea — and now here we are, about to dive into our second Election Night. That's only been possible thanks to the wonderful generosity of our readers. Without you, the Indy would not be what it is today! So thank you.

No updates yet on Washoe County's website, but the registrar is about to hold a virtual press briefing. I'll be tweeting out highlights, so follow along here!
Washoe County Registrar Deanna Spikula said the county received around 9,000 ballots that came in on Election Day through drop off locations and Election Day polling locations. She says the county is verifying, processing and tallying those ballots.
Spikula says Washoe County will be posting results daily by 10 a.m. moving forward.
Hello (👋) to my new followers! While we wait on Washoe to post its election results, let me introduce you to my other, very exciting beat: the coronavirus pandemic!
In addition to tweeting out election numbers I also tweet out a daily COVID update. So, without further ado...
Nevada COVID-19 updates for 11/4:
🧪 Test positivity remains high. Cumulative test positivity is 12.64%; avg daily test positivity is 22.52%.
🏥 COVID-19 hospitalizations are at 696, +1 from the previous day.
😷 Cases continue to climb in Nevada. The seven-day average of new cases reported each day is 895 today — where we were last on about Aug. 8. We've seen steady increases in case numbers now since mid-September.
Joe Biden's lead over Donald Trump has now NARROWED to 0.8 percentage points:
- Joe Biden: 49.40% (587,775 votes)
- Donald Trump: 48.62% (5878,498 votes)
These are statewide numbers. ^^
What happened:
- Joe Biden gained 33,990 in Clark
- Donald Trump gained 47,927 in Clark
🧪 Test positivity remains high. Cumulative test positivity is 12.51%; avg daily test positivity is 19.49%.
🏥 COVID-19 hospitalizations are at 678, +93 from the last reported day, two days ago, fairly steadily creeping back up.
😷 Cases remain high, though we did have a tiny drop yesterday and the day before in the seven-day average of new cases reported each day (857 to 844 to 830) — still too early to tell where the trend is going though.
The good news is that deaths have continued to stay pretty low. We've generally been in the range of 4-6 new deaths reported each day on average for the last two weeks.
Elected officials — including @GovSisolak, @SenCortezMasto, @SenJackyRosen, and @AaronDFordNV — are joining Silver State Health Insurance Exchange officials this morning to kick off open enrollment. I'll be tweeting out updates from the presser here.
@GovSisolak@SenCortezMasto@SenJackyRosen@AaronDFordNV Heather Korbulic, the exchange's executive director, notes that the exchange is working with five different carriers this year that are offering a combined 50 plans — almost double the number of plans they've had in years passed.
@GovSisolak@SenCortezMasto@SenJackyRosen@AaronDFordNV Korbulic notes that the U.S. Supreme Court will be hearing the Affordable Care Act case on Nov. 10 but she says consumers should know that they do not anticipate any impacts on plan year 2021.
