#Tweetorial 2/ First, what is the ideal protocol for BP measurement in neonates?
Realizing that it is sometimes challenging to meet all these requirements in the #NICU.
#Tweetorial 3/ What are the normal BP values in newborns by gestational age?
In #preterm and LBW infants, in day 1 of life, BP correlates with birth weight and GA. This correlation is not as evident in healthy, term infants.
BP increases in the first postnatal days.
4/ Now let's look at the BP percentile values by GA in infants after the first 2 postnatal weeks. I use the 95th percentile values to diagnose #hypertension in #neonates and infants.
5/ What are the causes of #neonatal#hypertension?
take a look at the list below. In my practice, I commonly see infants with #hypertension in the setting of umbilical lines, IVH and BPD.
Remember, the younger the patient, the more likely that #hypertension is secondary.
6/ Now that you diagnosed neonatal or infantile #hypertension, what workup do you need to consider based on your differential?
7/ I hope you enjoyed this short thread while we all are anxiously waiting for the results of #Elections2020. Next week will touch on the treatment of neonatal #hypertension, in the meantime hopefully our blood pressures will stay normal 😉
