Such a lie about Detroit.

I was there.

There were literally over 100 observers from each party.
Mark Brewer, a Democratic attorney who was in the room in Detroit:

“The Republicans and Trump had access to that room over a course of two and a half days. Hundreds of challengers in the room watching every ballot be counted."

So many in fact, they hit COVID capacity and
the police had to intervene and block the doors.
GOP at the table and even GOP just wandering around the room 👇🏻

NEW: 19 former U.S. Attorneys who served under *Republican presidents* released a statement tonight calling Trump's comments tonight about the vote "premature, baseless, and reckless."

via @JuliaEAinsley

1/
"Unfounded allegations of fraud and threats to initiate litigation aimed at stopping the vote count are clearly inappropriate and have the potential to undermine the rule of law as it applies to our electoral process."

As a nation, we are now in the midst of one of the most

2/
fundamental and important aspects of our constitutional democracy – the electoral process.

Whether it takes days, or even weeks, for that process to conclude, it must be allowed to take place in a way that is open, fair, and lawful, and without any improper political

NEW: From Michigan Sec. of State @JocelynBenson

*First unofficial tabulation within the next 24 hours," hopefully by the end of day.

10’s of thousands of ballots *still need to be counted* in largest metro areas, inc Detroit, Grand Rapids, Flint Kalamazoo
The final *official* results could take even longer.

Record breaking voter turnout and 3.2 million voted absentee of 5 million.

👉Also, a reminder that this situation is *by design of the GOP legislature*
For about 18 months MI officials were calling on the state legislature to allow more preprocessing time, knowing it would be impossible to count all the absentees so quickly.

They refused.

Bottom line: We are seeing exactly what they told us to expect, so cook your heels.

Trump lied to Michigan today about

1) booming auto plants & 2) it’s all because of him.

THREAD/LONG

1.Net loss of 2 auto plants since he took office:
(Warren transmission and a Ford engine plant in Romeo. A shuttered Detroit Chrysler plant is being retooled.
2. Another major loss is Great Lakes Steel, which for more than 100 years sustained the community of Ecorse. Hear from some of the workers here: nbcnews.com/now/video/laid…
3.Also not true no plants were opening before Trump took office. Here’s two examples: Ford Dearborn Truck in ’04 and Lansing GM assembly in 2006.

4.COVID is no excuse.
Jobs were ticking down even BEFORE COVID.

On Trump's closing argument attacking doctors, suggesting they're inflating COVID numbers for profit.

The truth? THREAD

1. Excess death is far worse than what's being reported.

"An estimated 299,028 excess deaths occurred from late Jan through Oct 3"

cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/6…
2. Doctors and hospital systems are struggling to regain their footing financially from COVID, which HURT them, draining revenue that comes mainly from tests that can't be done over Zoom and hospital procedures cancelled to free up beds for sick COVID patients.
3. Trump signed legislation that provides higher payments under Medicare to hospitals treating COVID patients. But the payments are tied to cases of the disease, not deaths or other outcomes.

The most delightful elderly man - looked to be late 70's/early 80's - just delivered our pizza, handing it over with a slight tremble in his frail arms.

If it's possible for a heart to feel physically heavy, it does.
Shortly after the 2016 election, an older female journalist pulled me aside after a TV hit and explained that, while she was in the sunset of her career, I (and other journalists my age) are now responsible.

We are responsible for explaining WHY we have safety net programs.
And doing it with plainspoken English.

We have them, because before they existed, before Social Security existed, many old people were poor or would just die if they didn't have family to take them in.

"The Depression was a catastrophic blow to almost every American, but none

NEW w @albamonica: Trump expected to bring as a guest to tonight's @NBCNews debate Tony Bobulinksi, the former Hunter Biden business partner quoted in the New York Post making allegations ab Joe Biden and Chinese business deals.

Important footnote:👇
In his statement, Bobulinksi talks ab his decision to speak out now, following Johnson’s report on Hunter. Bobulinksi says he was “shocked” that Hunter had made millions “behind my back.”

“The Johnson Report connected some dots in a way that shocked me — it made me realize ..
the Bidens had gone behind my back and gotten paid millions of dollars by the Chinese, even though they told me they hadn’t and wouldn’t do that to their partners.”
