The point of democracy is not to elect Democrats.

It's to give everyone a voice, however small.

It's to give everyone a fair and equal stake in the system.

And most of all, it's to create a modus vivendi. A way people with opposing views can live together.

Electoral democracy - by which I mean secret-ballot majority rule - is not a perfect system, which for example is why we have courts to protect minority rights.

But it's a crucial bulwark against the possibility of the few ruling over the many.

Electoral democracy tells the losing side they lost fair and square. It forces them to recognize that they're in the minority.

It forces the minority to persuade, and to change itself, in order to become the majority.

Thus, it provides stable legitimacy to society as a whole.

THAT is why the Trumpists currently trying to deny the results of an election are such dangerous villains.

And THAT is why voter suppression is such a pernicious, corrosive thing.

And THAT is why Stacey Abrams is a hero.

The political sands will shift back and forth.

Today the parties are stalemated.

Tomorrow the Left may surge to power, or the Right may come back and dominate.

But IT MUST BE DONE DEMOCRATICALLY.

Democracy must live forever. Fight anyone who tries to bring it down!!
