Now that Trump is spending the transition putzing around and doing nothing constructive, the fatalists are once again certain that it must mean he has a secret evil genius plan for... something or other. But nothing works that way in the real world.
When Bill Barr disappeared for the final month of the election, some of y'all were certain it meant he was carrying out his own secret evil genius plan to rig the election. But it turns out he was just out of gas. He reached the end of his influence awhile.
People like Trump and Barr are one trick ponies. They keep trying that one trick over and over. They succeed for as long as it keeps working. Once it stops working, they simply fail.
There's a perception that the more thoroughly backed into a corner Trump and his henchmen are, and the more desperately they need a secret evil genius plan, the more likely they are to come up with one. But increased desperation does not equal increased brains or ability.
Trump and his people had corrupt control over the government for four years, and they still couldn't figure out how to use it to rig their reelection. All that leverage, and they still lost by millions of votes. These are not capable villains. They're bumblers.
Even as we laugh at Trump because his personal attorney accidentally held a press conference at a landscaping store, we still instinctively think they must somehow have an evil secret genius plan up their sleeve. But they obviously don't.
