There a headline a little while back that stuck with me:
"Record private jet flights into Davos as leaders arrive for climate talk".
No, this isn’t a rant about climate change.
It’s one about hypocrisy.
I’ll tell you one thing: you can bet that there's one other thing that they're doing a lot of at Davos is eating meat.
You see, the people who hang out at Davos have no intention of adopting the veganism they're trying to impose on the world.
Since the global elite are a generally healthy, intelligent crowd, why wouldn't they?
Because they know that meat isn't the cause of disease.
There's something else they won't be doing at Davos: eating ultra- processed food.
You won't see many granola bars or donuts there.
Ultra-processed food is cheap food, largely carbohydrates, that is avoided by those with the means to do so.
What is ultra-processed food exactly?
A few examples include:
"breads and buns; sweet or savoury packaged snacks; industrialised confectionery and desserts; sodas and sweetened drinks;... instant noodles and soups; ...other food products made mostly or entirely from sugar, oils and fats..."
You get the idea: these foods are the packaged and processed, boxed and bagged foods that you find in the middle aisles of the supermarket.
They're associated with an increased risk of cancer, not to mention chronic disease generally.
In a nutshell, each 10% increase in consumption of these foods meant 10% increased cancer risk.
If you eat the average amount of ultra-processed food that Americans eat, you get 60% of your energy from it.
That means your cancer risk is 60% higher than for someone who eats none.
Smart people with money - the Davos crowd - may not be able to articulate this, but they know it.
These foods are made largely of refined grains, sugar, and seed (vegetable) oils.
Bad news.
They're also responsible for the obesity epidemic.
To lower your cancer risk, and to lower your risk of other chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer's, stay away from them as a general rule.
Outside of the occasional indulgence or cheat meal…
Focus on whole, minimally processed food.

Type 2 diabetes can be readily reversed, in most cases, by weight loss.
"Type 2 diabetes can now be understood as a state of excess fat in liver and pancreas, and remains reversible for at least 10 years in most individuals."
