TN DGP tells Madras HC that TN BJP president L Murugan took out Vetri Vel Yatra in over 100 vehicles despite rejection of permission @THChennai
Not even one person was wearing masks. No physical distance was maintained: AG Vijay Narayan
Mr. Murugan made another attempt on Nov 8 again without any permission.
Police personnel found it difficult to stop number of vehicles
Party cadres misbehaved with police personnel and prevented them from discharging duty. Nearly 2000 party cadres participated. This was not just a temple visit. Cars went in 10 km speed and Mr. Murugan was waiving his hand: AG
BJP is a ruling party in the Centre. They cannot violate cannons of law: AG
Your Lordship will be totally shocked to see the videos
A patty governing this country is taking law into its own hands
BJP lawyer: Govt is taking dual stand. Yesterday there was a congregation by an opposition party
I will also produce photos: BJP lawyer
BJP lawyer: I have stopped reading newspapers. Nowadays they are not carrying news. Equanimity is lost.
Judges pass over the case to 2:30 pm
Hearing commences
BJP lawyer: Many people come to watch. They will not become participants.
Judge: Ultimately who takes the blame? Police.
You are also carrying Vel. Technically it's a weapon.
BJP lawyer: our Vel is made of cardboard
I have instructions from the leader that everything will go on peacefully
Judge: If cadres misbehaved, ultimately who is going to bear the burnt
BJP lawyer: CM also waves while travelling in car and crowd gathers. Likewise crowd comes to take a glimpse of BJP president
Before accusing me, Poli CE should see videos of meetings organised by opposition parties
Situation must be balanced and everyone must be treated fairly
At least here am not an opposition party. I gave application seeking protection. Yesterday I gave representation to police
Rep given by BJP yesterday has been rejected today: AG
Judge: This is what happens when things take place on political considerations.
Advocate Stalin Abhimanyu for an intervenor: Despite case pending in court, they have carried out Yatra. This is the respect given to court.
BJP lawyer: Who is behind you?
Adv: Don't shoot the messenger
Judge : Intervenors are selectively objecting to BJP's Yatra alone. That also concerns us.
Additional Advocate General SR Rajagopal: Police had never given permission to any political party for mass events.
Judge: Police must act uniformly against all. It did not happen in the case of anti CAA protesters squatting on public roads
Judges to pass interim orders
