I wake up to the news of the passing of Saeb Erekat.

He was the Palestinian's top peace negotiator.

For years, I remember listening to him eloquently advocating for a #Palestinian state.

In those earlier years, I did not like him.

I saw him frequently on television and being an opponent of Palestinian Nationalism at the time, I recognized the power of his advocacy.

That angered me.

2
Later, I saw we were on the same page-two states for two peoples with justice and respect for the legitimate aspirations of both.

When he spoke, I began to listen.

And I grew to greatly admire him.

3
I also saw that those who advocated for a just solution for Israelis and Palestinians respected him as well.

I mourn his passing today.

He was Palestinian patriot who devoted his life to advance Palestinian independence, end the conflict & achieve peace through diplomacy.

4
He became a strong believer that a 2-state outcome was the only means to achieve peace for both peoples.

The only way forward.

May his name be remembered for a blessing.

May the dream of a Palestinian Homeland side by side a Jewish one be fulfilled one day.

Inshallah.

I have a lot of #Muslim friends who are fearful about being in America.

This is why.

@CAIRNational
They experience it in verbal assaults, physical attacks, & outrageous & disgusting religious comments about their faith.

They hear it in sermons like these given about Islam.

They see it in the stares they get at the grocery store.

They read it on posts throughout Facebook.

2
We Jews have been here before in this country.

But they will not stand alone now.

We will help them get through this time of hate and Islamophobia.

Together.

That so many political leaders still do not have the courtesy and the courage to acknowledge our new President and Vice President elect doesn't bother me.

1
@JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris do not need their graciousness or decency.

Over 75 million American spoke loudly that they will be our leaders come January 20, 2021.

2
But that these same political leaders cannot, in the midst of this terrible pandemic, help provide the assistance for struggling families to be fed, pay rent, keep teachers and families safe, and help stressed cities, that should bother us.

That should bother us.
