A brief thread on the origins of the US case against Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda, the ex defense minister of Mexico who was arrested in LA last month and is now being prosecuted in NY for working w/the H2 drug cartel, an offshoot of the Beltran Leyva org.

nytimes.com/2020/10/16/wor…
Buried in one of the very first documents released in Cienfuegos' case is a notice about an older *related* case that is going on in the same Brooklyn federal courthouse. Image
So what is that case?
It appears to be a multi-defendant case involving the H2 drug cartel and the names of most of the more than 20 people charged in it are still under seal. Image
Three defendants' names have been unsealed. One of them is Kenia Alejandra Valdez Alvarez. She is said to be a girlfriend of the cartel's leader, Juan Francisco Patron Sanchez, aka H2, who was killed by the Mexican Marines in Feb 2017. Image
Another defendant in the case is Jose Dagoberto Cortez-Perez who US federal prosecutors have described as a cook or chemist for the H2 cartel. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2018. Image
Only the final unsealed defendant, Deovaldo Gutierrez Alfaro, another member of H2, has any interesting documents about him on the docket. This one for instance indicates that he was a target of a large US wiretap operation based out of Las Vegas. Image
The case against Cienfuegos was itself largely based on wiretap evidence.
Presumably, the Las Vegas wiretap will play a central role in the prosecution as things move forward...

Right now a hearing is underway in Arizona involving a lawsuit about one of the stranger voting controversies of the election so far: SharpieGate.
Here’s a quick primer on the case.
Late last week, the Trump campaign filed suit in Maricopa County claiming that “systemic poll worker error” led to thousands of votes not being counted for Trump in Arizona.
There were two broad claims: 1) that people who used Sharpies for their ballots suffered “ink bleed” causing problems w/voting machines. The campaign claims when Sharpie ballots were rejected, poll workers tricked voters into overriding the system and disqualifying their ballots.

This plan sounds far-fetched but it was raised today by lawyers fighting a GOP suit in Michigan.
They were concerned the suit, seeking an audit, was designed to delay certification of MI's electors, opening a path for the GOP state legislature to award electors how they choose.
"Faithless" electors have already been rebranded as "faithful" electors. Image

NEW: Dems file response to Trump campaign's allegations of fraud in Detroit.
"The people of Michigan have spoken," they write.
But the GOP plaintiffs "apparently dissatisfied...filed this suit, eager to sow doubt." Claims are called "intrigue and fantasy, divorced from reality." Image
A hearing has been scheduled for 3 pm.
Stay tuned.
So in advance of today’s hearing in Michigan, here’s a quick primer on the suit in question. (Mind you, this is a state suit, not the similar federal suit that was filed in Michigan earlier today.)

JUST NOW: A Staten Island man, with a history of violent social media posts, has been charged in Brooklyn federal court w/making online threats to "blow up" an FBI building and harm "the Jew Senator from New York"--an apparent reference to Chuck Schumer.
Story soon.
A criminal complaint says the suspect, Brian Maiorana, 54, was arrested this morning and made a series of posts "threatening to kill protesters, politicians, law
enforcement officers and others."
Prosecutors say Maiorana posted similarly violent posts on the rightwing extremist site, mymilitia-dot-com.
Authorities found a Glock, a taser, a crossbow, an expandable baton and a skull mask in his home during the arrest. Also a book called "The Anti-Govt Movement Guidebook."

NOW: Trump campaign has filed a new lawsuit in PA broadly calling the state's election into question & asking
for an emergency order prohibiting the state from certifying the results. Image
It's a sort of omnibus complaint bringing together prior claims & alleging that an "unprecedented" number of mail in ballots were received w/o proper review. Image
Interestingly, parts of this new suit appear to contradict the president's prior claims that campaign observers were systematically kept from watching the vote count in PA.
Rather it claims that the GOP observers witnessed improprieties. Image

Warning.
This sounds like a statement of GOP strategy for how to tilt the election to President Trump w/o going through the courts at all but rather though GOP controlled state legislatures.
The GOP-led legislature in Pennsylvania, for instance, called today for "legislature-led" audit of PA's vote and are demanding not to seat the state's electors until it is finished. Will they find illegitimate results?
President Trump also posted a cryptic tweet earlier today saying that Wisconsin, which has a GOP-led statehouse too, was looking good but need "a little time statutorily."
