🚨 This is today's snapshot of each state's progress in reducing COVID cases/hospitalizations/death, via covidexitstrategy.org

Green is trending better.

Yellow is caution warranted.

Red is going downhill.

Bruised red is uncontrolled spread.
I didn't think it was possible, but the situation looks even worse today than yesterday.

California has slipped into the "uncontrolled spread" category, along with New Hampshire.
D.C. man. What are we doing?
States seeing the biggest spikes in positive COVID cases in the last 2 weeks: Maine (oof) and Iowa.
Are there any silver linings in this?

Vermont is in the yellow.

But look at the rate of positive COVID cases there in the last 2 weeks. :(
Alabama is doing something right, despite being in the blood red category of doom.

It's the only state that's currently lowered its rate of COVID positive cases in the last 2 weeks.
Two states are doing a good job right now testing, too: Vermont and Alaska.
Anyway, good day, everyone!

Speaking of Mitch McConnell spending this whole week confirming Trump's lifetime judges, he just teed up votes next week for 5 more.

Among them: a 33-year-old rated "not qualified" by American Bar Assn because she's only been practicing law since 2012. huffpost.com/entry/trump-ju…
Not only has Kathryn Mizelle only been practicing law since 2012, which ABA says is “a rather marked departure” from its standard, but she's never tried a case ― civil or criminal ― as lead attorney or co-counsel.

She's up for a lifetime seat on a U.S. district court in FL.
Why on earth would Republicans elevate an unqualified nominee to a lifetime federal court seat?

Oh I see. Image

NEW: More than 120 tribal leaders plan to send a letter to Biden this week saying it's long past time for an Indigenous person to serve in a Cabinet position -- and plugging Native American Rep. Deb Haaland for Interior Secretary. m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5f…
“We’ve never had a Native American serve in any Cabinet position,” Bryan Newland, tribal chairman of the Bay Mills Indian Community in Michigan and lead on the letter, told me. "Rep. Haaland is more than qualified and capable of serving as secretary of interior."
I talked to @RepDebHaaland about tribal leaders urging Biden to make her his Interior Secretary.

It would be a historic, seismic shift to have a Native woman lead the dept w/ oversight of public lands.

“The symbolism alone, yes, it’s profound,” she said. huffpost.com/entry/deb-haal…

Infectious disease expert Michael Osterholm on what Americans should expect from the coronavirus pandemic in the next few months:

“We are about to enter COVID hell." huffpost.com/entry/michael-…
Expect daily new infections to spike + hospitals overrun + quality of care to drop.

"I don’t think America quite gets this yet. This is going to get much worse. This is not to scare people out of their wits. This is to scare people into their wits because we still have control."
Holy. Shit. Look at this.

McConnell on the Senate floor, still not conceding that Joe Biden has won.

"The core principle here is not complicated: in the USA, all legal ballots must be counted.... Trump is 100% within his rights to look for irregularities."

(There is no evidence of any widespread fraud.)
Lots of Republicans keep saying "all legal ballots" must be counted, suggesting that this isn’t happening.

It is exactly what is happening.
The chorus of GOPers using this phrase is yet another dangerous sign of the GOP backing Trump at all costs.

“The real issue is whether they hurt themselves, likely at most in the short term, versus eroding democracy, likely in the short and longer term.” huffpost.com/entry/trump-fr…

Good day! ☕ Not sure if you have noticed, but what's happening right in front of our faces is nearly the entire Republican Party trying to delegitimize this election and the democratic process itself. huffpost.com/entry/trump-fr…
There is no evidence of any kind of widespread corruption or fraud.

Republicans know this.

They simply care more about not upsetting Trump’s base of supporters for their own political purposes. huffpost.com/entry/trump-fr…
Trump will go down in the history books for lying, cheating and otherwise doing anything he can to delegitimize the 2020 election and the democratic process itself as he headed for defeat.

Don't let Republican leaders off the hook. They are right there with him.

Well look who maxed out donations to vulnerable Republican senators just as Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing was in the works: the Federalist Society board chairman. huffpost.com/entry/federali…
FEC reports show Steven Calabresi, the co-founder and chairman of the Federalist Society, gave the maximum contribution allowed to six GOP senators in tight races between Oct. 9-19th.

Barrett’s confirmation hearing was Oct. 12- 15th. She was voted out of committee on Oct. 22.
Which six GOP senators got Calabresi's donations at a time when the Federalist Society really needed their votes?

Republican Sens. Martha McSally (Ariz.), Cory Gardner (Colo.), David Perdue (Ga.), Kelly Loeffler (Ga.), Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.).
