How can America prevent Republicans from stealing the 2024 election and installing a fascist? /1
Republican threats to have individual states choose electors for Donald Trump even though their citizens voted for Joe Biden are not about this election; they’re about putting a fascist in the White House in 2024. /2
And the reason Republican elected officials across the country are letting this drag out, even though they know Trump has no chance because Biden‘s margin of victory is so large, is to see how far they can push this in anticipation of 2024. This is a test. /3
The next election will not feature a failed, indebted businessman buffoon at the top of the Republican ticket; instead, it will almost certainly be a very competent neofascist, someone like Tom Cotton or Ted Cruz. /4
And their strategy to put him in power won’t be to win the majority of the votes: it will be to take the electoral college, either outright or through Republican-controlled state legislatures simply making it happen. /5
Thus, America is at a crossroads. Either we believe in “majority rule” democracy or we don’t. And for America to achieve actual full democracy, we must eliminate the electoral college as soon as possible. /6
Al Gore won the majority of the national vote. Hillary Clinton won the majority of the national vote. Neither became president because of the electoral college: the last first-time Republican presidential candidate won the national vote was 1988. /7
This year Joe Biden won the national vote in America, and right now Trump and the Republicans are saying he shouldn’t be president because of that same electoral college loophole. /8
The electoral college was put into place in 1789 because, as Alexander Hamilton pointed out in Federalist 68, in a geographically huge country it was very difficult at that time for voters to know the true nature of candidates. /9
Hamilton said, “Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors in a single State; but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him… [as] President of the United States.” /10
Thus, he said, states must appoint “wise elders” to go to Washington DC, meet the candidates, and either vote for the candidate their state had selected or, if he was a “drunkard or a person of low morals,” they could choose somebody else. /11
By the 1850s, the electoral college was already obsolete. We had the pony express and railroads were starting to transport news; the first national newspapers were emerging. /12
But today, Republicans are doing everything they can to cement and hold antidemocratic and even fascistic minority rule. /13
Democrats in the United States Senate represent 15 million more people than Republicans, but the GOP controls the Senate. George W. Bush and Donald Trump both became president, even though both lost the national vote. /14
If Democrats don’t make getting rid of the electoral college their top priority, and soon, the threat of fascistic rule will once again overshadow America. /15

Is Trump about to commit his ultimate treason? /1
The Founders greatest fear, when it came to the president, was that a man would be installed in the office who was in debt to, or loyal to a foreign government. It’s why they put the Foreign Emoluments ban in the Constitution. /2
Jared Kushner visited the Saudi‘s and the UAE just before they blockaded Qatar; within a few months an investment fund heavily financed by Qatar gave Kushner the billion dollars he needed to save his failing real estate empire, and the blockade ended. amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/… /3

Two things could be going on with Trump’s refusal to acknowledge the election. /1
Either he’s dragging this out so he can raise money to line his own pockets, or he’s coordinating with the billionaire donors who largely own a number of Republican state legislatures to steal the election. Or both. /2
The Constitution says that individual states’ legislators can award their electoral votes to whomever they choose; it just takes an act of the state’s legislature, in most states signed by the governor. It’s never happened, but it is constitutional. /3

1/ We’re coming out of one of the darkest times in American history, certainly the darkest time in the memory of most living Americans.
2/ Fear and hate have been the dominant national emotions during the last two Republican presidencies. They were used to lie us into a war in Iraq, and to tear us apart from each other for the last four years.
3/ Joe Biden becoming president means that we can focus on making life better for American citizens, rather than trying to demonize each other.

(1/13) Even losing will be a business opportunity for Trump
(2/13) When Donald Trump first decided to run for president, he confided to friends that his real goal was to get publicity for his brand and squeeze a larger payment out of NBC for his TV show. He even bragged he’d be the first person to make money running for the White House.
(3/13) Once he unexpectedly won, he turned that into a business opportunity, redirecting over $100 million of government money into his own properties and businesses.

(1/11) There’s a reason this election is this close. The old saying is, “Own the media, own the country,” and this election proves it true.
(2/11) Democrats have been totally stupid when it comes to the information wars. While Republicans built an enormous national “talk to people all day, every day, all year“ media infrastructure, Democrats only pour money into advertising once every four years.
(3/11) In the 1970s and 1980s, conservatives began building out an intellectual infrastructure to seize control of the political narratives in America.

(1/14) This election proves the need for a right to vote
(2/14) America needs an absolute right to vote, like most other major democracies.
(3/14) One legacy of slavery is that our Constitution does not contain an absolute right to vote for all citizens who have achieved the age of majority.
